Eugene Stewart "Gene" Long, 86, a resident of Annapolis and previously of Clinton, MD, died on March 13, 2016 at his home.
Born on June 13, 1929 in Washington, DC to the late Herbert and Regina Long, Gene was a graduate of Eastern High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952 as a Radio Man 3rd Class and was awarded the European Occupation and Good Conduct Medals. Among his tours of duty, he was assigned to the USS Myles C-Fox (DDR-829). Gene was a career electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union 26. He served as recording secretary for the Retired Members of IBEW and was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Annapolis, the American Legion, the Moose Lodge and the Fleet Reserve of Annapolis. Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Alice D. Long, who died in 2009. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Timmins of Harwood, MD, four grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to celebrate Gene's life on Thursday, March 17 at Chesapeake Christian Fellowship, 377 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, with a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. and his funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD.
