Kenneth Werts Passes Away

Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Kenneth Charles Werts of Davidsonville, Maryland, born Nov. 22, 1930  in Altoona, Pennsylvania, he passed away at the age of 92, on January 28, 2023.

He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Virginia Werts (Nelson) and Kenneth Claude Werts; his wife Peggy T. Wells; his sisters, Marjorie Parisi and Christina DiBernardinis (Dale); his children, Randy Werts (Dana) and Susie Agnolutto (Dario); his grandchildren, Amy Flowers, Corrie Donaldson (Mark), Cayce Burdette (Mickey), Kyle Werts (Corrie), Tim Agnolutto and Scott Agnolutto (Janelle); his great grandchildren, Judah, Eden, Simon, Noah, Elli, Logan, Sophia and Levi; and his sister-in-law Billie Wilson. He was also cherished by many nieces & nephews.

Tammie Traylor Passes Away

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Tammie T. Traylor (Davidsonville, Maryland), who passed away on January 16, 2023, at the age of 62. 

She is survived by : her children, Joseph Cooper, Johnelle, Johnette and Joni Traylor; and her husband John Traylor.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 10th 2023 at 10:00 AM at the Bishops Chapel at Evangel Cathedral (13903 Central Ave, Kettering, MD 20771). A burial will be held on Friday, February 10th 2023 at the Lakemont Memorial Gardens (900 W Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD 21035).

Spencer Co-Big Ten Player of Week

Cam Spencer of Davidsonville has made an immediate impact on Rutgers this season. Now, he received a special honor from the conference.

Spencer has been named the Co-Big Ten Player of the Week after his performances in victories over Northwestern and Ohio State. Spencer shares this week’s honor with Fletcher Loyer of Purdue. He is the second Scarlet Knight to win this award. Geo Baker earned this right twice during his career (2021, 2022).

Coming off a loss to Iowa, Rutgers needed to bounce-back on the road against Northwestern and Spencer made sure of it. He finished with a season-high 23 points, including 6-for-7 from three-point range. For the second time this season, Spencer hit a game-winning three in the final minute of the game.

Shirley Smith Passes Away

    Shirley B. Smith, 91, passed away peacefully Sunday November 13, 2022 in Jacksonville, FL.
    She was born on March 15, 1931 in Annapolis MD to the late Harold Butler and Ruth Butler. Shirley was a graduate of Annapolis High School, a skilled musician and member of the Episcopal Church. She enjoyed music, theater baseball and Navy Football and was thoroughly devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Marion Thomas Smith Jr. Shirley is survived by her loving family, daughter Judith Rackliffe, sons Bradley B. Smith and Grant H. Smith, grandchildren Cheri Keenan, Dawn Rackliffe, Douglass Bayne, Brooke Smith, Bradley Smith Jr., Brandon Smith and Cody Smith, great grandchildren Kylee Keenan, Katie Keenan, Bradley Smith III, Lincoln Smith and Meadow Fowler, sister Barbara Scott and nieces Jennifer Scott and Heather Scott as well as many other family members and friends.
    The family would like to give special thanks to the Earl B Hadlow Center Community Hospice for their compassionate end of life hospice care supporting loved ones during Shirley's final phase of live.          There will be a memorial service on January 21, 2023 at 11 am at All Hallows Episcopal Church at 864 Central Avenue Davidsonville MD followed by a Celebration of Life at the Crofton Country Club at 12:30 PM. Mom will be sorely missed but is in a better place. Her spirit and example will live on in our hearts and we will see her again one day.

Mohammad Shirmohammadi Passes Away

    With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Mohammad Shirmohammadi of Davidsonville, Maryland, who passed away on January 14, 2023 at the age of 94.
    A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 21st 2023 at 12:00 PM at the National Memorial Park (7482 Lee Hwy, Falls Church, VA 22042).

Ruth Ridgley Passes Away

    On Saturday January 14, 2023 Ruth B. Ridgley passed away peacefully in her home in Lothian, Maryland at the age of 91.
    Ruth was born on September 15, 1931 to Thomas and Ruth Vocase in Lawrence, Massachusetts. After marrying her husband in 1953, she settled down in the family home in Lothian, MD where she lived until her passing.
    Ruth was preceded in death by her husband O.C. Ridgley Jr. Ruth is survived by her three daughters Dawn Morgan, Marsha and Chuck Wyvill, Ginny and Carl Copsey. Four grandchildren- Robert Wyvill and Angela Stallings, Shawn Raynor and Tori Hunt, Mark and Jessica Wyvill, Dani and Casey Michael. 8 great grandchildren- Zoe and Ryan Gorka, Cameron Wyvill, Hunter and Ryder King, Sawyer and Rowan Wyvill, Charlee and Georgia Michael.

Spencer Leads Rutgers To Win Streak

Cam Spencer  

  • With 21 points (following a season-high 23 points last game at Northwestern), he was the first RU player to have back-to-back games of 20+ points in Big Ten play since Ron Harper Jr. (Dec. 14, 2020 vs. Maryland and Dec. 20, 2020 vs. Illinois).  
  • He reached double digits for the fifth straight game and has scored in double-figures in six of seven Big Ten games  
    • He has scored at least 13 points in the past six games, averaging 14.4 points per game in that span.  
  • Had four steals, his most in a Big Ten game and second most on the season (after having six steals in the season opener).  
  • Went 9-of-11 at the free throw line and is now at 44-of-47 (93.6%) on the season.
  • Spencer was the first Big Ten player since 2010 to have at least 21 points, seven rebounds, six assists, four steals and one or fewer turnovers in a game.

Virginia Wiltsey Passes Away

We are sad to announce that on January 7, 2023 we had to say goodbye to Virginia Mary Wiltsey of Davidsonville, Maryland. 

She was predeceased by: her parents, Albert Tither Greenwood and Linna Greenwood of Virginia. She is survived by : her husband Ernest Wiltsey; her sons, Paul (Kriston) and David (Lori); her brother Joseph Greenwood (Lou); her sisters-in-law, Patricia Snodgrass (Charlie) and Peggy Morey (Pete); and her grandchildren, Joshua, Elizabeth, Lucas and Andrew. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 16th 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Woodlawn Baptist Church (5001 Church Rd, Bowie, MD 20720).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Helen Davidson Passes Away

 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Helen A. Davidson (Davidsonville, Maryland), who passed away on January 7, 2023, at the age of 90.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 13th 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Lakemont Memorial Gardens Cemetery (900 W Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD 21035).

Cam Spencer And Rutgers U. Basketball

Cam Spencer from Davidsonville led the Rutger's Scarlet Knights in their basketball loss to Iowa U. on Jan 7 scoring 13 points on 40% shooting.   He also had 3 Assists, 5  rebounds, and 3 steals.

We are sad to announce that on January 1, 2023, at the age of 63, Omosalewa Sosanya (Davidsonville, Maryland) passed away.

Patricia Turner Passes Away

Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Patricia M. Turner of Davidsonville, Maryland, who passed away at the age of 76, on January 5, 2023.

She is survived by : her daughter Kimberly Carter (Chuck); her grandchildren, Emily P. and Christopher G. Carter; and her great grandchild Charlotte R. McGlaughlin. She is also survived by relatives and friends.

Richard A. Owens Passes Away

We are sad to announce that on December 31, 2022 we had to say goodbye to Richard A. Owens III of Davidsonville, Maryland, born in Annapolis, Maryland.

He is survived by : his sons, Richard A. Owens, IV of Cibolo, TX and Andrew T. Owens of Harwood, MD; his daughter-in-law Barbara Owens; his siblings, Leroy Owens of Mt. Jackson, VA and Betty Anne Schultz of Annapolis, MD; his grandsons, Zachary P. Owens and Brantley C. Owens; and his pets, Amber and Sadie.
