Arlene Lee Wyatt Passes Away

 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Arlene Lee Wyatt of Davidsonville, Maryland, who passed away on September 18, 2021, at the age of 71, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family. You may also light a candle in honor of Arlene Lee Wyatt or send a beautiful flower arrangement to the funeral service.

Robert Ford Passes Away


     Robert Emerson ""Bob"" Ford, Sr. passed away peacefully on August 25, 2021.
    He was born and raised in Edgewater, MD, the son of the late George W. and Hattie Ward Ford. Bob was educated in the Anne Arundel County School System and worked with David Taylor Research Center. He then served in the U.S. Army with the 12th Armored Division, ""Hellcats"" during World War II. When his commander asked if anyone wanted to be a cook, he quickly volunteered. Bob was often commended by superiors for the excellent meals he provided the troops as they marched through Germany. Upon returning home from the war he continued to work for the Federal Government at the Naval Ship Research and Development Center where he received six Letters of Commendation, three Beneficial Suggestion Awards and three Sustained Superior Performance Awards. Bob retired after thirty-one years with the government then worked for a private estate for 13 more years. He was a charter member of South River Ruritan Club, the Annapolis Elks Lodge 622, was an active member of the Three Rivers Sportsman's Club and attended Davidsonville United Methodist Church with his wife, Jean. Bob enjoyed many hobbies including, hunting, maintaining a bountiful vegetable garden and repairing small engines. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix, often times inventing ways to make the repair. During his retirement he and his wife, Jean, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Bob was a dedicated family man. Together Bob and Jean cooked the most delicious Sunday Family Dinners. He didn't say much at a family gathering but his impact was felt. His quiet strength will be missed by every member of his family.
    Bob was the beloved husband for 75 years of the late Wilma Jean Ford; father of Michael Stephen (Jackie) Ford, Pamela Linnea (Lee) Matousek and the late Robert E. Ford, Jr.; grandfather of Tania Ford, Linnea Boogades, Amanda Conner, Laura (Jon) Taralseth, Erin (Adrian) Tapley, Amy (David) Berry, Danielle (Eric) Couslin and great-grandfather of Brandon, Nicholas, Kyla, Carter, Cadhan, Nate, Maddy, Braden, Ethan, Everly, Ben, Georgia and Hadley.

Julia Zorn Coaching At Washington U.

     Davidsonville native Julia Zorn has been hired as an assistant soccer coach at Washington College in Chestertown, MD.
    Julia played Division I soccer at Iona College and Towson University. Zorn began her collegiate career at Towson, earning Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) All-Academic Team honors in 2008, her lone season with the Tigers before transferring to Iona. At Iona, she helped the Gaels finish third in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in 2009, their highest conference finish in five years. She was also named to the MAAC All-Academic Team in 2010 and served as her team's Student-Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative.
    An exceptional Dean's List student, Zorn graduated from Iona in 2012 with a 4.0 grade-point average and two degrees - a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Psychology. She has performed an extensive amount of research in both fields. She holds a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association. A Maryland native, Zorn spent two summers as a youth soccer coach for Davidsonville Athletics.

Pamela Case Passes Away


     Mrs. Pamela Jane Case (nee Munson), 77, passed away peacefully on 3 September 2021 in Phoenix, Arizona after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.
    She was born on 12 July, 1944, and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan where she graduated from Creston High School in 1961. She attended Michigan State University where she graduated with a BS in 1965 and an MS in 1968. She was an employee of the Defense Department and later Carnegie Mellon University. Pam was a long-time resident of Davidsonville, Maryland, retiring to Belville, North Carolina. She absolutely loved traveling, gardening, and filling the kitchen with wonderful aromas.
     She was preceded in death by her parents L. Austin Munson and Janet E. Perkins, her step-father Glenn Perkins and her brother Roy Munson. She is survived by her husband William, son Christopher, daughter-in-law Julieta, granddaughters Sophie Case and Emilia Case, daughter Robin McDermott, son-in-law Daniel McDermott, and grandsons William McDermott and Ryan McDermott.
     A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Contributions in her honor may be sent to Alzheimer's Foundation of America,322 8th Ave, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to P.O. Box 4017, Park City, UT. 84060.

Capt. Wm Matton Passes Away

Captain William G. Matton III of Davidsonville, Maryland died suddenly at home on September 10, 2021. 

Born in Pensacola, Florida to a family with long-time Annapolis roots and the son of a United States Naval Academy graduate, Bill graduated from the Naval Academy in 1965, served a distinguished career as a naval officer, and in retirement pursued his passions for family, friends, golf, history, and genealogy. 

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary Lambert Matton; two wonderful sons, William Christopher Matton of Raleigh, North Carolina and his wife Melissa and Jeffrey Andrew Matton of Crownsville, Maryland and his wife Michele; five beloved grandchildren, Ross, Scott, Andrew, Anna, and Ella; and two brothers, Captain Michael Nevett Matton of Annapolis, Maryland and his wife Tori and Stephen Jeffrey Matton of Sebastian, Florida and his fiancée Mandy. Bill was predeceased by his father Captain William G. Matton, Jr. and his mother Nevett Steele Matton. 

Following graduation from the Naval Academy and flight school, Bill flew on maritime surveillance and anti-submarine missions during the Vietnam War. He attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California and earned a Master's degree in Management Science. He then taught accounting and financial management at the Naval Academy. After several tours flying and serving at the Pentagon, he commanded VR-24, a squadron in Sigonella, Sicily supporting aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean Sea. Bill completed his naval service in Norfolk, Virginia as Comptroller for the Atlantic Fleet. Golf played a major role in Bill's life. While at the Naval Academy, Bill lettered and competed in the 1964 NCAA championship. He won the Naval Academy club championship in 1972 and 2005 and the senior club championship in 1999. He served as President of the Men's Association at the Naval Academy Golf Club for nearly 30 years. Bill also served on the board of the Maryland State Golf Association, the Rules Committee of the Middle Atlantic Golf Association, and the Handicap Procedure Committee of the United States Golf Association. Most importantly, Bill enjoyed the time he spent on the golf course together with his many friends, his sons, and grandchildren. Bill had a passion for history and genealogy. He had a particular interest in American history and World War II. Bill researched and wrote a comprehensive history of the Matton and Lambert families, which is treasured by both families. Bill loved sharing time with family and friends during Class of 1965 luncheons, golf outings, a magical trip to Switzerland and down the Rhone River, bridge games, the Masters, the grandchildren's sporting events, the annual Camp Matton family reunion, Outer Banks beach trips, and meals together. Bill was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was supportive to all who knew him and he will be greatly missed. He Set the Standard. The family will receive friends at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis on Friday, September 17, 2021 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Naval Academy Chapel on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the memory of Bill Matton may be made to the 'Naval Academy Athletic Association - Men's Golf Sustainment Fund' and mailed to NAAA, Men's Golf Sustainment Fund, Ricketts Hall, 566 Brownson Road, Annapolis, MD 21402 c/o Nancy McMahon. This is a restricted fund. Please make checks payable to NAAA.

Michael Bender Passes Away

     Michael Jude Bender, 71, was surrounded by family and friends at home as he went home to be with Jesus on August 26, 2021 after an 11-year battle with ALS.

    Mike is survived by his wife of 50 years, Debbie Bender; his 7 children, Mike, Danny, Josh, Leah, Rachel, Jacob and Jesse; his 13 grandchildren, Britnie, Kaylie, Maddie, Jaden, Jack, Abbie, Luke, Nick, Riley, LB, Caleb, Brennan and Mox; his sisters, Dorrie McDonald and Mary Siddons; and his brother, Steve Bender. He is predeceased by his parents; Phillip and Dorris Bender; and his siblings, Phillip Bender and Bobbi Bender.
    Mike was born on June 24, 1950 in Washington, DC and grew up in Seabrook, MD. He graduated from Duval High School in 1968. Mike married the love of his life on February 13, 1971 and together they created a beautiful family in Mayo, MD. He was a loyal employee at Giant Food driving tractor trailers for 25 years. He was also the owner of Mike's Sign Service for many years. Mike was a kind, hardworking man and an amazing husband, father and Granddaddy. He enjoyed riding his Harley, watching football and most of all spending time with family and friends. He was a devoted Christian and stayed steadfast in God throughout his battle with ALS. His character, strength and faith were exemplar as his spirit shined. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all that knew him!
     A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday, September 26, 2021 at 1:00 at Chesapeake Christian Fellowship in Davidsonville, MD. Reception to follow. Motorcycle Procession: Meet at 12:00 at American Legion Post 226 Edgewater, MD
