Shooting In Davidsonville

 Southern District, AA Co Police      Shooting (Non-contact) - Davidsonville    23-707059

 
On February 25, 2023, at approximately 11:00 a.m., officers responded for a report of a shooting that just occurred in the 3300 block of Riva Road in Davidsonville. During their investigation, officers learned that a 71-year-old female intentionally drove onto the victim's property and struck two parked vehicles. The victim stated that he exited his residence with a rifle and fired several rounds at the suspect vehicle as it continued to crash into unoccupied vehicles on his property. The suspect vehicle and driver subsequently fled the residence. A short time later, officers received information that a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description was involved in a hit-and-run motor vehicle collision, where an injury was reported, in the area of Solomons Island Road and Colony Crossing. The suspect vehicle was observed by officers in the area of Solomons Island Road and Mitchells Chance Road in Edgewater. Officers were able to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and took the driver into custody without further incident. Upon inspection of the suspect vehicle, there appeared to be three impacts to the windshield from the rounds fired by the victim on Riva Road. The AR-15 rifle was recovered by the officers at the original shooting scene. There were no physical injuries reported as a result of the shooting. The resident (original victim) of the Riva Road address was arrested and charged accordingly. The driver of the suspect vehicle was arrested and charged accordingly.

Sports Betting In Riva

RIVA, MD — A waterfront events venue in Riva is nearing approval for a sports betting facility license.

Michael's on the South River, operated by Kathe P. Hospitality, may soon be able to host sports betting. The business currently holds weddings in its 225-person reception hall, located at 3027 Riva Road next to Mike's Restaurant & Crabhouse.

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission on Jan. 26 found Kathe P. Hospitality qualified for a sports wagering facility license. There are still some steps before the final approval, however.

Residents Oppose Cell Tower

The Maryland Farm Bureau, located on at  3358 Davidsonville Rd, has agreed to allow a 140 ft. tall cell tower on their property.  This has been unpopular with local residents who are now attempting to reverse this decision.  To read more about this,  go to:    Residents oppose Cell Tower Near 424

A one story home on 2.18  acres  at 3402 Davidsonville Rd was sold by Edward Houndshell to Richard Abendroth for $475,000.

Cam Spencer At Rutgers U.

Cam Spencer of Davidsonville led the stats in the Rutgers U. 88-86 OT loss to Hofstra U. in round one of the NIT tournament.  Cam had 22 points on 8 of 16 shooting, including 6 of 13 from 3-point land. Cam also had 8 rebonds, 5 assists, 1 block and 1 steal.

Keith Jewell Passes Away

    Keith Lee Jewell died peacefully on March 11, 2023, after a short illness in Statesville, NC. He was born July 29, 1943, in Washington, DC, to Adrian Lee Jewell and Margaret Strong Jewell.
    He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lorren Jewell, and his stepsons David Roth and Richard Roth and their families. Keith was the Director of the Office of Photography in the US House of Representatives for 30 years and a veteran of the US Marine Corps. He loved photographing people, especially his grandchildren, sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, and serving at his church.
     The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 18, at Grace Presbyterian Church, 4012 Birdsville Road, Davidsonville, MD. There will be a graveside service following at Vale United Methodist Church, 11528 Vale Road, Oakton, Virginia.

Cam Spencer Gets 18 in Rutgers Win

Cam Spencer of Davidsonville led the Rutgers U. basketball team in a 62-50 drubbing of Michigan U. on March 9, 2023.    Cam's 18 points was high for the team.  He also had 3 rebounds and 2 assists.  He hit 6 of his eleven shots, including two 3 point shots.

Bonnie Warrington Passes Away

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Bonnie J. Warrington of Davidsonville, Maryland, born in Annapolis, Maryland, who passed away on March 6, 2023, at the age of 65, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her father Leland Duttweiler; and her brother Gregory Duttweiler. She is also survived by her in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and cherished friends.

Richard Brien Passes Away

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Richard T. Brien (Davidsonville, Maryland), born in Brockton, Massachusetts, who passed away on March 5, 2023 at the age of 88. 

He was loved and cherished by many people including : his wife Lois A. Brien (Savard); his parents, Claire B. Brien (Deslaurier) and Thomas E. Brien; his children, Richard T. Brien III, Kimberly A. Coon (Curtis), Mark J. Brien (Patty) and Susan E. Spedden (William); his grandchildren, Michael, Christopher (Juliann), Joseph (Stephanie), Ashley (John), Annalise (Shayne), Stephen (Cassandra), Nicole (Dylan), Brandon (Jordyn), Sophie, Emily and Jamie; his great grandchildren, Lilliana, Shayne, Jack and Eliana; his siblings, Jeanne Florio (Ricky), Donna Sullivan Miller (Loren), Polly Lindstrom (Jim), Dolores Yanni and Leo Brien; and his siblings-in-law, Frank Yanni, Toni Brien and Claire Franchetti. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews and their children.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 10th 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Eline Funeral Home (11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, MD 21136). Joyce Olmo Passes Away (Updated)

Carrie Armiger Passs Away

Carrie Mathilda Entzian Armiger, 89, of Mitchellville, MD, passed away peacefully at home on 26 February 2023, surrounded by her family. Born 1 January 1934 on the Haas family farm in Davidsonville, MD, she was the second daughter of five girls to the late Oscar Herman and Josephine Louise (nee Haas) Entzian of Mitchellville, MD. She was preceded in death by three of her sisters, Ella (David) Hopkins, Sr., Dorothy (Howard) Thieme and Margaret "Cookie" Entzian; and, brothers-in-law, Larry M. Slauson and W. Donald Armiger, Sr.

Carrie, lovingly known as "Sissy" by her family, enjoyed being outside and when given the option as a young girl to either learn to cook or work on the farm, she chose to work on the farm with her Father. She started her formal education at the Mullikin School and went on to graduate valedictorian, from Frederick Sasscer High School in 1952. With her DO IT RIGHT attitude, she began working at Farm Credit soon after graduation and then the Enquirer Gazette newspaper, both in Upper Marlboro, MD. In 1960 she met the love of her life, James F. (Frank) Armiger, Jr., and on 27 May 1961 they wed and began their life together in Mitchellville, MD, where they raised their two girls. In 1968, Carrie began working for the Prince George's County Board of Elections, retiring in 1998, after serving her county for 30 years. Carrie was a member of First Lutheran Church of Bowie, where she was actively involved in many groups and loved serving her Lord. In her retirement she enjoyed spending time with family, farming, gardening, going to church and helping others.

In addition to her devoted husband of 62 years, she is survived by her loving daughters, Lisa (Gary) Bednarik and Jennifer (Erik) Armiger-Baten; adoring grandchildren, Sarah Bednarik, Erik II and Emerson Baten, all of Mitchellville, MD; and her devoted kitty cat, Louie. She is also survived by her sister Betty Slauson and her sister-in-law Linda Armiger; and, cherished nephews and nieces Donnie, Marilyn, Wayne, Dale, Mark, Keith, Donald, Julie and a host of other relatives and friends.
