Gretchen Peery Passes Away

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Gretchen Miller Peery (Davidsonville, Maryland), born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who passed away on July 21, 2022 at the age of 87. 

She was predeceased by : her husband Ed Peery; her children, Laurie Jackson and Gregory Peery; her parents, John Miller and Esther Miller; and her sisters, Barbara Klavon and Suzanne Hahn.

She is survived by : her daughter Martie Milliken (George) of Annapolis, MD; her children-in-law, Charles Jackson (Emily) of St. Mary's City, MD and Lori Peery of Merritt Island, FL; her sister-in-law Ann Peery Ritter of Pittsburgh, PA; her friend Karen Mack of Annapolis; and her grandchildren, Chad Jackson, Eric Jackson (Minhlan), Rebecca Carlson (Michael), Christopher Dawson, Elizabeth Kupfer (Morgan), Margaret Milliken, Peter Milliken, Lindsay Jones (Kyle), Blake Peery (Rachel) and Hannah Peery. She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 20th 2022 at 11:30 AM at the Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church (4012 Birdsville Rd, Davidsonville, MD 21035).

John Jennings Passes Away


     John Joseph Jennings, age 88, of Edgewater, MD passed away on July 17, 2022.       
     Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years Irene Yonkers Jennings; daughter Sharon (David) Boone of Ellicott City, MD. and son John Joseph Jennings (Anne) of Chicago, IL.; grandchildren Emilie (Andrew Kupchock), Cory (Laura), Steven and Brian Boone, and many nieces and nephews.

John Jennings Passes Away

On July 17, 2022, at the age of 88, John J. Jennings (Davidsonville, Maryland) passed away. 

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, July 26th 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Holy Family Catholic Church (826 W Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD 21035). A mass of christian burial will be held on Tuesday, July 26th 2022 at 12:00 PM at the same location.

John Taliaferro II Passes Away

    J ohn W. Taliaferro II, 74, of Stevensville, MD passed away suddenly on July 12, 2022.     
    John was a loving husband, father, and pop pop. He was devoted to his loving wife Mary Ann for 52 years. He was Pop Pop to 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and a wonderful friend to many. His unyielding kindness, bright smile, mechanical wizardry, musical talent, and curiosity about the world will be greatly missed by both his family and friends.
    John was born in Washington, DC on October 8, 1947, to father John W. Taliaferro and mother Janet M. Taliaferro. He was raised in Hyattsville, MD and attended Northwestern High School. After high school, he became a printing apprentice where he found a lifelong career. After working for several notable printing companies throughout the DC area, he joined the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement in 2014.
    He met his wife Mary Ann in 1966 and they were married in 1970. The pair eventually settled in Riva, MD to raise their two children. Just last year they relocated to Stevensville, MD. John loved spending time with his family, tinkering in the garage, watching and playing golf, Notre Dame Football, Maryland Terps basketball, the Washington Capitals, and playing music with his band, "The Lugnuts." He loved living near the Chesapeake Bay, fishing, boating, and picking crabs. On a beautiful day you would find him taking his motorcycle or his convertible Mustang out for a cruise. John also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and would travel all over to see them. He and his wife Mary Ann loved to travel and visited many places throughout the world.
    John was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Kay Zittle and Sharon Fones. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann; son John (Melissa) and daughters Dawn (Brad) and Tessa; grandchildren Andrew, Maddox, Sutton, Ellison, Wilton, Cecilia, Lillian and Stone and great-granddaughter Natalie.        Friends are invited to celebrate John's life on Tuesday, July 19th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, July 20th at 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD. Jerry Alan Jones Passes Away


    Jerry Alan Jones of Davidsonville, Maryland, passed away after a lengthy illness on July 16 at Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, MD.
    Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of 63 years, his children Kathy Jones Repage of Leland, NC; Jeffrey Alan Jones of Lake Mary, FL; Greg Jones of Chestertown, MD; and Linda Jones of Franklin, MA. In addition, he leaves behind five grandchildren: Ashley Jones, Brett Jones, KC Repage Tregoning, Bradley Jones, and Hannah Finnegan; and one great-granddaughter - Rylee - and one great-grandchild due in November.
     Jerry was General Manager, Safety Management Division for the United States Postal Service; served on the Board of Directors of the National Safety Council; and was awarded several presidential honors throughout his career. He served for 8 years in the Army Reserves. An avid lover of dogs, sports, and gardening, he led life to the fullest.

James Fate, Jr. Passes Away

     James "Jim" Fate, Sr., of Annapolis, MD passed peacefully on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. 
     Born on August 21, 1934 to the late Ruth and Harry Fate, Jim was an incredible business owner and volunteer throughout his life. Over the years, Jim volunteered at The Davidsonville Ruritan and Davidsonville United Methodist Church, where he was an active member. His mission in life was to help anyone in need and to make people feel accepted. His hobbies included golf, reading, winning at bingo and spending time with family and friends. |
     He was married to his best friend and the love of his life, Marilyn Miller Fate, for 55 years until her passing in January 2020. Jim was a loving father to Jim (Michelle) Fate, Jr. and Jean (Matt) Edwards. He was an extremely proud "PopPop" to his 10 grandchildren, Thomas, Natalie, Joseph, Noah, Sophie Joy, Luke, Ruth, Moriah, Joel and Elijah James and was a supportive brother to Charles Fate and his late sister, Evelyn.

John Sailhamer, Jr. Passes Away

 It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved John R. Sailhamer Jr. of Davidsonville, Maryland, born in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Augut 14, 1945, who passed away at the age of 76, on July 9, 2022. 

He was predeceased by : his parents, John R. Sailhamer and Ruth Sailhamer (Clever); and his wife Daryl K. Sailhamer. He is survived by : his daughter Barbara Sailhamer-Helliwell of Davidsonville; his grandchildren, Bradley and Heather Helliwell of Davidsonville; his sister Dawn V. Schwenk; and his nephew Donald Varner.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 18th 2022 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at the First Assembly of God Church (420 Baltimore Rd, Shippensburg, PA 17257). A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 18th 2022 at 1:30 PM at the same location.

2022-23 School Calendar

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County on Wednesday approved the 2022-23 school year calendar and made a change to the current academic calendar.

The 2022-23 calendar calls for the first day of classes to be Aug. 29, 2022 and the last day will be June 16, 2023. It also restores two full days of parent-teacher conferences at the beginning of Thanksgiving week with two partial days of parent-teacher conferences in March.

The calendar retains the traitional weeklong aster/Spring Break and for all schools and offices to be closed on the occurrences of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Eid al-fitr.
