Doris Weidman Passes Away

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Doris May Weidman of Davidsonville, Maryland, who passed away on April 25, 2022, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.  She was born May 27, 1928.

She was loved and cherished by many people including : her parents, Roy and Evaline Smallwood; her husband George; her son Mark W. Weidman; her sister Ruth Williams; her daughter-in-law Ginny Weidman; her grandsons, Michael, Matthew Weidman and Stephen Beitzel; and her great grandchildren, Tyler, Matthew Weidman, II and Mason Sullivan.

Lawrence Filippelli Passes Away

 We are sad to announce that on April 22, 2022 we had to say goodbye to Lawrence J. Filippelli (Davidsonville, Maryland), born in Washington, District of Columbia.    He was born March 17 1924 and was 98 years old.

He was predeceased by : his father Frank Filippelli; his wife Rosemary Filippelli; and his sister Evelyn Costa. He is survived by : his children, Larry Filippelli, Jr. (Michelle) of Fredericksburg, VA, Francis Filippelli (Lisa) of Edgewater, MD, Dee Orth (Vince) of Lyons, KS and Maryann Penn (Taras Vizzi) of Stewartstown, PA; and his grandchildren, Michael, Bradley, Rich, Laura, Jen, Brandi and Jessie. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 1st 2022 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory (2973 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037). A mass of christian burial will be held on Monday, May 2nd 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Holy Family Catholic Church (826 W Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD 21035).

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Family Catholic Church.

James Stevens Passes Away


      James R. Stevens, 87, a 51-year resident of Edgewater, MD, passed away on April 14, 2022.
      Born on July 22, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Eva and William G. Stevens II, Jim graduated from Penn State University in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business. He enjoyed a lengthy and rewarding career with Victor O. Schinnerer & Co., rising from an underwriter to Chairman of the Board before retiring. Jim was a farmer too; he raised and sold beef cattle on his farm, Little Flower Hill Farm, in Edgewater and was a member of the Anne Arundel Farm Bureau. He was also an avid sports fan and passionately followed the Penn State Nittany Lions, Maryland University Terrapin basketball team, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Redskins football team. When he needed a break, Jim loved visiting his home in the Grand Caymans. Jim and his wife also enjoyed entertaining and hosted a widely popular Christmas party at their home every year. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Peggy, who passed away in 2018 and his brother William G. Stevens III.
      He is survived by his children, Lynne Prenatt of Annapolis, MD and William "Bill" (Carol) Stevens of Edgewater; 11 grandchildren, Rebecca Mertz, Evelyn Sutton, James Prenatt, Dahlia Quinn, Georgiana, Samuel and Celine Prenatt, and Nichole, Lydia, Eva and William Stevens; and three great-grandchildren.
      Friends are invited to celebrate Jim's life with his family from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 29 at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 30 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD. Genevieve Way Passes Away

      Genevieve Agnus Way "Gene", 90, formerly of Davidsonville, MD passed away quietly in her sleep on April 7, 2022. 
     She was a 1948 graduate of Battin High School and received her BA from Douglass College in 1953. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Annapolis. One of Gene's favorite memories were trips to visit the sister church in Letohrad, the Czech Republic. She made two such trips in 2004 and 2006 teaching high school students the English language. Gene was also excited to visit her maternal mother's birthplace, Prague. Gene was an active senior with a wide range of interests and a perpetual student. Her keen interest in learning was an inspiration to many in our community and for her family. For years Gene was an election judge in Anne Arundel County and worked as a substitute teacher at both Severna Park High School and at South River High School. In 2007, Gene joined the ShowStoppers of South County a variety troupe made from members of the South County Senior Center in Davidsonville, MD. The troupe performs shows all over the county in numerous settings including nursing homes, assisted living homes, senior centers, luncheons, county fairs, and more.
      Gene was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, George H. Way, Jr.; her mother, Margaret Schatz and her stepfather, Samuel Schatz. She is survived by her son, Lawrence Way of Dundas, VA, and his wife, Theresa Peterson-Way; her former daughter-in-law, Dyan Way and her only grandson, Zachary Way of Milton, DE.
     A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, April 28 at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the Anne Arundel Medical Center and staff for the amazing care they provided Gene. James Bryant Passes Away


 

     James Harold "Jimmy" Bryant, 86, a 52-year resident of Davidsonville, MD, passed away on April 4, 2022, at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
     Born on May 27, 1935, in Asbury, WV to the late Minnie Roach Bryant Cox and Oscar Marlin Bryant, Jimmy graduated from Alderson High School in West Virginia. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and the National Guard from 1959 to 1963. Jimmy worked as a project manager for Hargrove, Inc. in Lanham, MD. He retired after 58 years of service during which time he forged hundreds of great friendships. Always active, Jimmy enjoyed working in his yard and bowling and golfing with family and friends. He coached his sons in Davidsonville baseball and watched his grandsons play for 18 years with pride. In addition to his parents,
      Jimmy was preceded in death by his stepfather, Homer E. Cox, and all of his siblings, Merlin and Ivan Bryant, Wayne Bryant, Sr., Audrey Hiser and Arnetta Butler.
      He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Erma Scruggs Bryant; two sons, Richard L. (Julie) Bryant of Davidsonville and Steven K. (Loretta) Bryant of Harwood, MD; one daughter, Cynthia D. (Tony) Berry of Deale, MD; five grandsons, Zachary, Cameron and Nicholas Bryant Rees of Deale, Dylan Bryant of Harwood and Charles Collison of Easton, MD; and two granddaughters, Brittany N. (Nick) Whiting of Ellicott City, MD and Sarah Bryant of Davidsonville. Jimmy will also be mourned by many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and former co-workers.
      He was loved by all. Friends are invited to celebrate Jimmy's life with his family on Tuesday, April 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD where Jimmy's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 20 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. Joyce Brown Has Passed Away

 We are sad to announce that on March 31, 2022, at the age of 74, Joyce Brenda Brown (Davidsonville, Maryland), born in Riva, Maryland passed away. 

She was predeceased by : her parents, Sarah D. Blair and Joseph Blair, Sr.; her husband Frank Brown; her brother Joseph "Joe" Blair, Jr.; and her aunt Leathia Jones.

She is survived by : her children, Vanessa Spurlock (James), Rebecca Graham (Ernest) and Darrin Brown, Sr. (Demaris); her grandchildren, Jasmine Jowers Prout (Tristan), Aaron Boggs, Charles Sellman, Darrin Brown, Jr. and Domenique Brown; and her siblings, Julius Blair, Annapolis, MD, Gregory Blair (Toni) of Baltimore, MD, Timothy Blair of Cleveland, OH, Wayne Blair of Cleveland, OH, Venicent Blair (Priscilla) of Annapolis, MD, Gaither Blair of Cleveland, OH, Theresa Edmonds of Baltimore, MD, Rhonda Fletcher of Glen Burnie, MD, Kim Blair of Glen Burnie, MD and Phyllis Hopkins of Glen Burnie, MD. She is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23rd 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Union Memorial United Methodist Church (3328 Davidsonville Rd, Davidsonville, MD 21035).

Joyce departed this life on Thursday, March 31, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Joyce attended Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

      Molly Coyle received her Bachelor of Science in Finance from the College of Charleston. While in Charleston, Molly was the senior team captain of the college’s NCAA Division I Equestrian team.

Christina Campitelli Passes Away

Christina Marie Campitelli, known to her friends as Chrissy and her family as “Momma Bear”, passed peacefully in her sleep at home on a warm early Spring day, surrounded by the family, friends and pets she loved, following her most recent battle against cancer.

 She was born on January 16, 1969, and grew up in College Park Woods, College Park, MD. She attended Saint Marks, Elizabeth Seton (1986) and then graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science (1991). She raised her family in Davidsonville, MD for 20 years until the family moved to be on the water in Edgewater, MD about 4 years ago. Chrissy devoted her life to raising her children and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved sitting on her dock enjoying the sunny South River, the beach, her children’s sporting events, boating with friends and family, and vacationing in Ocean City and the Florida Keys. She also enjoyed the company of her pets, Maggie, George and Louie. Chrissy is survived by her husband of 26 years, A.J. Campitelli, along with their three children, Anthony (24), Leo (22) and Caroline (20); her parents, Philip and Nona Ricker; her brothers, Philip (Jacqueline) Ricker and James (Amy) Ricker, as well as several nephews, Jacob, Wilson, Bennett, Miller, Luke and Grant and her niece, Gwenyth. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, March 10 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD on Friday, March 11 at 12:30 pm, with reception to follow.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Chrissy’s memory to the Wellness House of Annapolis, 2625 Mas Que Farm Rd., Annapolis, MD 21403.

Gray Reynolds Passes Away

 


   Gray Reynolds, 82, a 25 year resident of Davidsonville, MD, passed away on March 31, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
    Born on November 6, 1939 in Burley, Idaho to the late Gray and Margaret Reynolds, Gray graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Forestry, and went on to receive a Master’s degree in Public Land Administration from Michigan State University. He worked for 37 years at the Department of Agriculture, and retired as Deputy Chief of the U.S. Forest Service in 1997. Gray worked as the General Manager of the Snowbasin Ski Resort, where he aided in the development of the ski area for the 2002 Winter Olympic Men and Women’s downhill events. Gray was a proud member of the Forest Service Retirees, and served as the past President of the National Museum of Forest Service History. He was a parishioner at St. John Neuman Catholic Church. Gray was an avid skier and fan of the Navy Football team.             Gray is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Glenda Reynolds; his beloved daughters, Marie (Charles) Bailey of Boiling Springs, PA, Margaret Ann (Jay) Erwin of Nesbit, MS, Cathleen (Cush) Newman of Davidsonville, MD, and Susie (Fergus) Hughes of Davidsonville, MD; his siblings, George of Redmond, WA and Mary Morrissey of Olympia, WA; his grandsons Connor and Austin Bailey, Gray and Andrew Erwin, Clay, Mark, and Thomas Newman, and Liam Hughes; and his granddaughters Sophia, Cecilia, and Mia Bailey, Catherine Erwin Kendricks, Siri Erwin, Sydney Newman, and Grace Hughes.
     Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gray's life at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Chapel, 16501 Annapolis Road, Bowie MD on Monday, April 4 from 11am until Mass of Christian Burial is offered at 12 noon. Additional services will be planned in Lutcher, LA with Rose Lynn Funeral Home, 1870 Cabanose Ave., Lutcher, LA 70071. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Museum of Forest Service History, P.O. Box 2772 Missoula, MT 59806. Condolences may be made using the Memories tab at the George Kalas Funeral Home (Gray Reynolds Obit at Kalas).
