Maurice "Snooks" Carr, 88, of Davidsonville, MD, passed away on March 29, 2018.
Snooks was born on February 1, 1930 to the late Charles and Annie Carr on the family farm in Davidsonville and was one of ten children. He spent his entire adult life in service to country and community. From 1953 to 1955, Snooks served in the U.S. Army's Third Infantry Division (The Old Guard) and was stationed at Ft. Myer, VA. He began serving his local community in 1947 as a volunteer with the Riva Fire Department. He continued as a volunteer for 9 years before becoming an Engineman with the department in 1956. Snooks transferred to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department in 1965, after it was incorporated, and remained there until his retirement in 1991.
When not on duty at the firehouse, Snooks worked on the family farm, growing corn, tobacco, and hay, and drove a county school bus. He was a member of Mayo United Methodist Church, the Davidsonville Ruritan, American Legion Post 90, the International Association of Fire Fighters, and the Anne Arundel County Retired Fire Fighters Association.
In addition to his parents, Snooks was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Carr, who died in 2016. He is survived by his children, David (Lisa) Carr of Millville, DE, Deborah Carr of Indian Head, MD, and Brenda (Greg) Evans of Easton, MD; and three grandchildren, Kyle and Dylan Carr and Colton Evans. Friends are invited to celebrate Snooks' life with his family on Wednesday, April 4 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 5 at 10 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riva Volunteer Fire Department, 3123 Riva Rd, Riva, MD 21140.
