Alton "Jim" Sadler Passes Away

    Alton James "Jim" Sadler, of Davidsonville. died peacefully on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at home after a long battle with cancer. He was 76 years old. 
    He was born in Annapolis on December 6, 1941, to Alton Taylor and Marie Sadler of Eastport. Jim was the nephew of the late "Cap'n" Herbie Sadler, founder of Sadler's Seafood in Eastport, and Charles E. Sadler, proprietor of Sadler's Hardware on City Dock. 
    He was a 1959 graduate of Annapolis Senior High School. In 1963, he received an Associate in Business Administration and in 1965, a Bachelor of Commercial Science, both from Benjamin Franklin University in Washington, D.C. In 1966, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years during the Vietnam Conflict, including time on the destroyer USS Holder. In 2007, he retired as Treasurer of ARINC after 42 years. Jim was a member of the Fleet Reserve Club, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, American Legion, Loyal Order of Moose, the National Rifle Association, and the Virginia Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was an avid outdoorsman, spending much of his free time hunting, fishing, shucking oysters, and working in his yard. He also enjoyed attending Orioles and Ravens games. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a great friend to all who knew him. 
    Jim was predeceased by his parents and by his wife of 52 years, Donna Lee Sadler, who passed away January 19, 2018. He is survived by daughter, Rie Sadler and husband Jim Jones of Catonsville; son Will Sadler and wife Riki of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandson Jesse Barna of Davidsonville; brother Bill Sadler, of Davidsonville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 
    Visitation will be Monday, April 23, 2018 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at John M. Taylor Funeral Home in Annapolis, Maryland. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, AMVETS, Civil War Trust, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
