Katherine "Kay" Lavonne Ainsworth (née Lane), 71, of Annapolis, MD passed away on April 12, 2018 at her son's home in Naples, FL.
Born on March 20, 1947 in Washington, DC, Kay was the third child of the late Daniel and Katherine Lane. She graduated from St. Patrick's Academy in Washington and went on to have a long Federal Government career, working at the Board for International Broadcasting. In her youth, Kay spent all her summers on the Mayo Peninsula (Beverly Beach) where she was an avid swimmer and water skier. While living in Annapolis, Naples, FL and Clarkesville, GA, she was very active in her local Baptist churches, teaching children's bible study and contributing to numerous ministry projects and fellowship groups. Kay was especially loved by her church-family at Riva Trace Baptist Church in Davidsonville, MD. She will be remembered for her strong faith, kindness and willingness to help others.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, John who died in 2012; sister, Jean Jones and brother, Daniel "Buddy" Lane. She is survived by her son, Kevin Burke and his fiancée, Tiffany Sailsbury; her sister-in-law, Paulette Lane; several nieces and nephews and many other loving relatives and dear friends.
Friends are invited to celebrate Kay's life with her family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 19 at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Kay's funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, April 20 at Riva Trace Baptist Church, 475 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
