Crop Deer Damage Issue

Farm Bureau Hotline!!
On the floor of the Senate this week, legislation put forward by the Sportsman's Coalition to prohibit the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) from issuing deer control night shooting permits to farmers was debated. The bill would have cut off a tool to address overwhelming deer crop damage that cannot be controlled under normal depredation permits. Maryland Farm Bureau opposed SB 747 as it was amended in Committee. Senators Hough, Mathias, Middleton, Jennings and Eckardt worked to delay the bill so amendments can be drafted over the weekend to address Farm Bureau's concerns. We are working to reach a compromise that allows farmers to protect their crops.
