Gene Sumi, who earned a B.A. in history from
Chapman College and a M.A. in psychology from Catholic University, retired from
the Army in 1989 after reaching the rank of major. He was stationed at Fort
George G. Meade for the previous five years, his daughters were settled in
their schools, so the family stayed in Severn.

horticulture training landed a job as the educational coordinator at
