BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland's Pat Spencer became the first men's lacrosse player in Patriot League history to earn Offensive Player of the Year honors all four seasons in the conference, the League announced on Monday as part of its postseason honors.
Spencer is the fourth student-athlete in any sport to win the same award four times in the Patriot League, joining two divers – the Navy's Kevin Teague (2004-07) and the U.S. Military Academy's Chelsea Haviland (2003-06) – and four-time softball Pitcher of the Year Lisa Sweeney (2006-09, Lehigh).
The senior will graduate from Loyola this year as the most decorated player in men's lacrosse history. In addition to his four Offensive Player and All-Patriot League First Team honors, Spencer is currently a three-time USILA All-American and two-time Tewaaraton Award finalist. While he is the only player in NCAA Division I to rank in the top-20 in points (2nd, 6.64), assists (T-2nd, 3.79) and goals (20th, 2.86), Spencer is the all-time record holder in points and assists for both Loyola and the Patriot League.
He currently ranks third in NCAA career points (359) and assists (219). With seven more assists, he will set the NCAA Division I all-time record, and he is 42 points shy of moving into first all-time in points. This season, Spencer has scored 40 goals to go with 53 assists for 93 points.
Loyola will open play in the Patriot League Championships on Friday, May 3, when it hosts the semifinal round at Ridley Athletic Complex. The Greyhounds will face a quarterfinal winner in a 5 p.m. game.
