A man was killed in a crash that shut down the eastbound lanes of U.S. Route 50 in Anne Arundel County early Monday afternoon. The crash was reported around 11:55 a.m. Monday near Rutland Road in Davidsonville, officials said. State police said the car somehow left the roadway and overturned in a wooded area alongside the highway.
Fire officials said a 20-year-old man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not yet been identified. There is no word on what caused the crash.

At 11:55 a.m., the driver of a white Toyota Corolla veered off the right shoulder of Route 50 near Rutland Road. The car went up a hill and collided with several trees, which then made it overturn. The Corolla came to rest against a fence, police said.
