Penn State women's lacrosse player Madison Carter was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week
for the third time this season on April 5. The standout freshman was honored
after scoring four goals, dishing off two assists and winning four draw
controls in helping the Nittany Lions go 2-0 the previous week.
Carter, who plays both attack and
midfield, is second on the squad in both goals scored (30) and draw controls
(39). The Davidsonville resident was previously named Big Ten Freshman of the
Year on Feb. 23 and March 15.
"Madison's had a fantastic
freshman year and has fit in seamlessly with our attack from the very
beginning. She is an incredibly mature player that has come up with huge goals
at critical times," said Penn State head coach Missy Doherty, a St.
Mary's High graduate.
Carter is one of two freshman from
Anne Arundel County playing integral roles for Penn State. Kayla Brisolari, an
Archbishop Spalding product, is the first midfielder off the bench and has
contributed seven points along with strong defense.
"It is difficult to be
consistently competitive year after year because of graduation so this year it
was incredibly important that our freshmen came in and made an impact.
Thankfully, players like Madison and Kayla have come in and done a great
job," Doherty said.
