Lois Roby Torrence, 81, resident of Heritage Harbor in Annapolis, formerly of Davidsonville, died Saturday September 19, 2015.
She was born to Jennie C. and Louis J. Roby on July 16, 1934 in Connellsville, PA. Lois graduated from Connellsville High School in 1952 and served in the Air Force in 1952-1956. She met and married her husband of 47 years, Cecil Gray Torrence, Jr. of Washington DC, while she was stationed at the Pentagon. They lived together in Davidsonville for over 40 years before relocating to Heritage Harbor in Annapolis. Lois was active in the Davidsonville Ruritan Club and recently could have been seen enjoying events at The Fleet Reserve Club, American Legion, and the Elks Lodge in Annapolis. She loved travelling; reading, puzzles, big band music, and watching her grandchildren participate in various sporting events.
Lois is predeceased by her husband Cecil Gray Torrence, Jr., and survived by her children Alyce C. Thomson and her husband David, James G. Torrence and his wife Robin, Suzanne T. Stadig, Samuel O. Torrence and his wife Carole, John D. Torrence, twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, her sister-in-laws Jeanne Roby, Pearl Roby, Dorothy Roby and a large extended family. She was predeceased by her siblings Erma Jean Schultz, Calvin Roby, Roberta Rackley, Louis J. Roby Jr. and Charles "Buck" Roby. Lois will be remembered as a selfless, altruistic wife, mother, and grandmother who always had a smile, even when times were tough. She had a quick wit and a commanding strength.
Visitation will be at Hardesty's Funeral Home in Annapolis, MD on Tuesday from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be at Hardesty's Funeral Home on Wednesday at 10:00am. Interment to follow at Fort Lincoln Cemetery located at 3401 Bladensburg Road in Brentwood, MD. In lieu of flowers the family requests you please make a donation to a disabled veteran
