Sophia Louise Morrissey, 88, of Davidsonville and formerly of Libertytown, died Friday, May 8, 2015 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis.
Born May 4, 1927 in Douglas, WY, she was the daughter of the late Anton and Sophie Kutina Vitek.
She was the wife of John Thomas Morrissey Jr., who predeceased her in 2003.
Mrs. Morrissey was a 1945 graduate of Stephen Watts Kearney High School. She became a registrar for Kearney Jr. and Sr. High School, then was employed with Schlumberger Well Service Corp. In 1962 she started with the Dept. of State Foreign Service in Washington, DC and Cairo, Egypt, then became a homemaker. She was active with the Red Cross, as a Girl Scout leader and a voter precinct leader in Dale City, VA. She and her husband retired to Libertytown in 1987, where they enjoyed their business, J. & S. Exotic Birds, raising exotic birds for a number of years.
Surviving are two daughters, Janet Lorene Morrissey and Jean Marie Cox and husband, Randy, all of Davidsonville; grandchildren, Christopher Stauffer, Liam and Erin Cox; and sister, Ruby Burks of Douglas. She was predeceased by sisters, Virginia Huber, Frances Gallegos and Dorothy Miller. There will be no public visitation. Private graveside services will be held in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Frederick County Hospice, P.O.
