Leon “Les” Sperry Leslie, Jr., a 40-year resident of Edgewater, died on Monday, May 4, in Kingston, IL, following a six-month battle with cancer. He was 86.
Born May 25, 1928 in Washington, D.C.. to the late Bernice and Leon S. Leslie, Sr., he graduated from Bladensburg High School and later got his Real Estate Broker’s license. Leon worked for Pepco, Amtrak, AT&T and Leslie Realty. Most of his career was spent surveying and doing real estate. Leon was a longtime member of the N.R.A. and enjoyed hunting and golfing. He will be remembered as a devoted family man who always put his family first.
Leon was the loving husband of the late Ann Wilson Leslie, whom he married on May 14, 1947 and who died on February 10, 2000; father of Stephen W. Leslie of New York, NY, Jeffrey M. Leslie of Halifax, VA, Leon W. Leslie of Kingston, IL, Emma Jane Payne of Lewes, DE and Sandra A. Cruise of Chester, MD; brother of Donald Leslie of Port Charlotte, FL and the late Thomas Leslie; grandfather of Nathan Leslie of Fairfax, VA, Kevin Leslie of Chicago, IL, Sam Leslie of Ellicott City, MD, Daniel, Hannah and Leah Cruise of Chester, MD, Eddie, Emma and LeeAnn Leslie of Kingston, IL, Brigid Wethington of Columbia, MD, Rachel Leslie of Severna Park, MD and Amanda Leslie of Sneads Ferry, NC. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call on Monday, May 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at Riva Trace Baptist Church, 475 West Central Ave. in Davidsonville.
