Susan Appleman Passes Away
Susan Louise Appleman, age 62, sied suddenly on October 5, 2019 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Susan was born on December 30, 1956 in Washington, DC to Gertrude and Alger Kerner.
She gained a B.S. in Computer Science at the University of Maryland in 1978. She worked in the Computer Science field up until her death. She married William Minor Appleman on October 6, 1979. They raised two sons and one daughter in Davidsonville Maryland. In 2014, Susan and husband Minor moved to Asheboro, North Carolina, which is their current residence.
Susan enjoyed gardening in her spare time and was a devoted conservationist, doing her part to save the planet. With 5 brothers and sisters, family gatherings were a special treat. Hiking, bike riding and exercise in general were a big part of her life.
Susan is survived by her husband, Minor; three children, Casey (Melissa), Amy and Dale, in addition to two grandchildren Adam and Emma. Susan is also survived by five brothers and sisters, Joseph (Donna), Teresa (Steve), Richard (Mary), Patricia (James), and Charles (Celeste).
A funeral service and reception will be held on November 2, 2019, 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 12700 Hall Shop Rd., Highland, MD

Auto Injury At Nudist Resort
DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. (AP) — A man has been
injured in a golf cart crash at a nudist resort in Maryland.
Anne Arundel County fire spokesman Erik Kornmeyer tells The Capital that
the man suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to a trauma center
in Baltimore. He says the injuries weren’t considered life threatening.
He says the man crashed into a tree Saturday afternoon, causing the cart
to overturn. The man wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time. Kornmeyer says the
man then called 911 from a building at the Maryland Health Society, where he
was either visiting or staying.
Further details about the nature of the crash
and the severity of the man’s injuries weren’t immediately available.

AA Co Police Take Back Drugs Oct. 26
EDGEWATER, MD — The Anne Arundel County Police Department will be on hand at the Southern District station, 35 Stephneys Ln., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to assist residents participating in the Oct. 26 National Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative.
People can anonymously hand over expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceutical-controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction. Officers also show residents how its permanent drop boxes work that are installed at each district station and police headquarters. The drop boxes encourage the public to dispose of unused or unwanted medications year-round.
Participants can dispose of medication in its original container or by removing the medication from its container and discarding it directly into the disposal box. If an original container is submitted, the individual should remove any identifying information from the prescription label.
All solid dosage pharmaceutical product and liquids in consumer containers will be accepted. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The depositor should ensure that the cap is tightly sealed to prevent leakage.
Intravenous solutions, injectibles and syringes will not be accepted due to potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens. Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative and should not be placed in collection containers. If an individual attempts to surrender an illicit controlled substance, law enforcement personnel should handle such material as abandoned property in accordance with department policy.

Driver Charged In D'ville Store Crash
The car that
crashed into a convenience store in Davidsonville had been reported stolen,
Anne Arundel County police said Monday.
Charges are pending against the driver,
identified as Derrell Lamont Smith, 44, of Upper Marlboro, Marc Limansky, a
police spokesman, wrote in an email.
Zaheer Ahmed, manager of the store, said repairs to the small building are expected to take two to four weeks. The car came to rest completely inside the building. “It was on top of the cash register,” he said.

Jane Cobis Passes Away
Jane E. Cobis, 94, passed away quietly on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 of natural causes after a lengthy resistance to leave her family and friends.
Her loving husband, John, acted as her caregiver throughout her battle, assisted by Hospice of the Chesapeake. Born on October 24, 1924 in Manhattan, NY to Edward and Mary Wolfersdorf, Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Edith McConville and her first husband, Paul Scott. Paul and Jane parented five children, James Scott, Mary Diane Hatley, Paula Felt, Jennifer Mathews and Regina Piazza. Those children blessed her with 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. After raising her children in District Heights, MD, Jane rejoined the workforce and enjoyed her second career as a valued administrative assistant with NASA, headquartered in Washington, DC, where she earned several employee recognition awards. She was very proud to have met several of our nation's astronauts and to have played a significant role on the NASA Advisory Council. Friends are invited to celebrate Jane's life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Thursday, October 24 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD on Friday, October 25 at 10 am. Interment Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD. Pam O'Brien Named To SEC Honor
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference announced their weekly cross country honors on Tuesday afternoon, as redshirt freshman Pamela O'Brien was named SEC Women's Freshman of the Week for her performance in the women's 5k race at the FSU Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 11.
The nod serves as Pamela O'Brien's first SEC honor in her time with the blue and orange.
O'Brien, a native of Davidsonville, Md., notched her second career top-10 finish at the FSU Invitational, finishing in eighth place with a collegiate-best time of 18:00.4 in the women's 5k race. The performance served as O'Brien's third personal-best performance in a row, as she was one of four Gators to finish in the race's top 10 in guiding the Gators to a first-place team finish at the meet.
O'Brien's time of 18:00.4 serves as the eighth fastest 5k time among women's freshman SEC runners.
The Gators return to the course next Friday, November 1, for the 2019 SEC Championships, hosted in Lexington, Ky. at the University of Kentucky.

George Anderson Has Passed Away
George William Anderson, Jr., a 35-year resident of Davidsonville, MD and formerly of Bowie, MD, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2019 in Annapolis.
Born on August 20, 1929 in New York City to the late George and Edith Anderson, George graduated from high school and joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he became a proud Marine for life. After serving in the Korean War and attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel, George earned a master's degree in education administration. He and his wife, Eleanor, then moved to Maryland where he pursued a forty-year career as an educator with the Prince George's County Public Schools. Those who knew George will always remember him for his positive, easy going manner and, of course, his ability to spin a good yarn. He will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Eleanor Anderson. George is survived by his children, Kathy (Glenn) Larson, William (Ann), Robert (Kendy) and George Anderson, III; his ten grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
The family will have a celebration of life ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to, On the Rebound Bulldog Rescue Foundation, 3601 Margaret Ct., Chesapeake, VA 23321.

Rt. 450 To Be Closed Again
DAVIDSONVILLE, MD — During the weekend of Oct. 25, a section of MD 450 between Ridges Gateway and Crownsville Road/South Haven Road will be closed to allow crews to install new, larger reinforced concrete pipes that will help accommodate a greater volume of water during heavy rains.
The closure will begin at 11:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, and run through 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28. During the temporary closure, motorists will be detoured to US 50/US 301 (John Hanson Highway) and MD 424 (Davidsonville Road.) Approximately 8,000 motorists travel on this section of Defense Highway every day, so motorists are encouraged to allow for extra travel time.

D'ville Man Dies In Outer Banks
NAGS HEAD, N.C. (AP) — A Maryland man who died Thursday after swimming in North Carolina’s Outer Banks is the third person found dead in the surf there in the last week.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that the 51-year-old victim from Davidsonville, Maryland, was seen floating face down in the surf Thursday at about 3 p.m. His name was not released.
Nags Head Ocean Rescue responded and tried unsuccessfully to revive him.

DUMC 175th Anniversary
The Davidsonville United Methodist Church is approaching the official 175th Anniversary! To celebrate they are throwing a fancy Gala and want you to be there! .
The Gala will be held at the Byzantium Banquet Hall in Annapolis, Saturday, November 2nd at 5 PM. Tickets for the event are $50 per person. There will be appetizers, dinner, a program, and lots of celebrating! So, break out your fancy cocktail dresses and suits. You do NOT want to miss this! .
