Robert Long Passes Away


    Robert Lee Long "Bob", 90, a lifelong DC native and 35-year resident of Mitchellville, MD, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 18, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. 
    Born February 25, 1928, in Washington, D.C. to the late Elsie and Henry Long, he was the founder of Long Fence. Bob served his country in World War II in the Merchant Marines and the United States Navy. He was an avid tennis player who loved nature, the water, crabbing, his dog Bailey and spending time with his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and five siblings, 
    Bob was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Cronin Luther; and two grandchildren, Kimberly Cronin and Bo DePaola. Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marlene Long; three daughters, Sharon Long of Fairfield, IA, Bobbie Lee (Mike) Ritter of Mitchellville, MD, and Jill (John) DePaola of Davidsonville, MD; seven grandchildren, Bill (Lesley) Cronin, Michael (Tara) Ritter, Jr., Bridget (Darren) Burns, Robert (Michelle) Ritter, Matthew (Sharon) Ritter Sr., Katie DePaola, and John DePaola, Jr.; and 16 great-grandchildren. 
    Friends are invited to celebrate Bob's life at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Thursday, October 25 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD on Friday, October 26 at 11 am. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bo's Effort www.boseffort.org and St Jude's www.stjude.org
