New Rector At All Hallows

The Rev. Jeffrey Huel is eager to lead All Hallows Parish to face the new century’s challenges as its new rector.
Born and raised in Pensacola, Florida, Huel first recognized his calling when he was 20. At that time, he had no intention of becoming a priest. He spent the next 20 years pursuing various careers, including accounting and a number of years managing his father’s moving and storage company in Florida.
Then, his calling, as he put it, came back to haunt him.
With the support of his family, he attended Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria. After he was ordained, he was assigned to St. Johns Parish in Baltimore. While there, he met All Hallows interim rector, the Rev. Mary Sulerud, who felt he would be a perfect match for All Hallows. She encouraged his application to All Hallows.
“When I interviewed at All Hallows, I connected with the vestry here,” Huel said. “They asked me to preach a sermon and, when I did, I felt a genuine connection here. I’m very happy to be here and I’m already in love with the church.”

Established in 1692 as one of 30 Anglican parishes in the Colony of Maryland by England’s King William and Queen Mary, All Hallows Parish records extend back to 1669.
No one knows where the first church was located, but the Brick Church in Edgewater was built in 1729. The Chapel in Davidsonville was established in 1860 as a chapel of ease, but, because of the Civil War, it was not completed until 1865.
In its three-century history (it celebrated its 325th anniversary last year), the parish has seen many joys as well as losses. Probably the most devastating change was the fire that ravaged the Brick Church in 1940, leaving only the walls standing. But the parish rallied and rebuilt the Brick Church in its original Georgian style.
In the 21st century, the church faces new challenges, among them a dwindling congregation. However the current congregation is dedicated to the parish and researching and preserving the parish’s history. They can also boast of an excellent and enthusiastic choir, which received attention when it was selected to perform the national anthem at a Baltimore Orioles game this past summer.
Huel and his family will soon move into the rectory at All Hallows, the first rector and family to live there for a number of years. The building was previously rented and is being refurbished for the Huels.
Huel is handling the church services and working closely with the vestry, learning the church history and planning for the future. His official installation as rector will be held May 20.
For more information on All Hallows, visit www.allhallowsparish.org.

Maggie Anderson To Play For Liberty

Annapolis Area Christian School senior Maggie Anderson of Davidsonville  has signed with Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA to play lacrosse in 2018-19.  Anderson has been a 4 year varsity lacrosse player at AACS along with 4 years of varsity field hockey.  She has 12 years of playing experience behind her and has received both all-conference and all-county honors in lacrosse.  She is also apart of the 2015 and 2016 championship teams.
Anderson chose Liberty for the community and energy she felt while on campus.  She knew from early on that this is the place she wanted to go for college.  It had everything she was looking for.  It was a bigger Christian school close to home with her desired major of interior design.  After her visit to the campus, she came home saying "I am going to play there."  Playing lacrosse at Liberty had always been her goal.
Since entering AACS in 9th grade, AACS has played a large role in her preparation for college.  The challenging academics and spiritual influence has set her on the path for success.  Playing field hockey and lacrosse in high school has given her the constant reminder of who we all play for.  Athletics has taught her sportsmanship and humility.
"Her leadership role as a captain was exemplified through her skills, discipline, and willingness to lead by example in every aspect of the game.  Maggie's tenacity and drive is evident on the field.  Without hesitation, I can say that she is a young woman of integrity, probity, and passion." said Women's Lacrosse Ualani Schmitt
Jim Domoracki, Athletic Director said, "Maggie has worked hard throughout her high school years. She's been a good teammate and a good leader.  I am happy that her hard work has resulted in this opportunity at Liberty.  It is well deserved."

Loyola Lacrosse Losses In Double OT

Loyola opened up a 4-2 lead Satursday before the end of the game's first quarter   Pat Spencer, of Davidsonville,  was involved in  all four of the Greyhounds'  four goals.  He scored the first unassisted after running from behind the cage, using a hesitation step to get past his defender before bouncing a shot inside the near post.
Spencer then was on the feeding end of the next Greyhounds' score when he threw a pass over the cage to a crashing Drapeau to put Loyola up 2-0 after just 68 seconds.
After a goal by Virginia,  Loyola responded less than three minutes later as Spencer initiated from behind to feed P.J. Brown for a 15-yard low-to-low sling at 5:51. Virginia got back within one at 3:14 as Ian Laviano scored the first of what would be a game-high five goals, the first coming on extra-man.
Spencer, however, pushed the advantage back to a pair with 15 seconds left before the expiration of the first quarter. John Duffy threw a pass from goal-line extended to Spencer at the top of the box, and Spencer stepped into an 18-yard bouncer that found the net.
