The Maryland State Highway Administration next month will begin a $7.6 million highway lighting upgrade on Route 50 in Anne Arundel County from the PG county line to Rowe Blvd, including he Davidsonville Road interchange. The aging system will be replaced by the latest LED systems which will improve safety and cut operating costs by concentrating the light on the travel lanes resulting is less light on grassy surfaces and nearby areas.
Crews will construct concrete foundations and install new poles, averaging about three poles each day, according to the SHA. The lighting upgrades should be complete spring 2018, weather permitting.
When the project is complete, this section of Route 50 will only have 430 light poles instead of 490, a nearly 13 percent reduction.
