Walter
"Walt" Allen Tolliver, 70, a 28-year resident of West River, died May
18, 2022, of end stage Alzheimer's Disease.
He was born in Annapolis on April
17, 1952, to the late Walter and Cora Tolliver of Annapolis. Walt is survived
by his wife of 27 years, Deborah Tolliver (Vallandingham); his daughter, Corey
Tolliver; and son, Colin Tolliver, both of West River. He has one brother,
Robert "Bobby" Tolliver of Annapolis. In addition to his parents,
Walt was preceded in death by his sister, Connie Houghland of Hanover,
Pennsylvania.
Walt graduated from Annapolis High School in 1970, then earned a
Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Kentucky. Later, he
achieved a Master's in Business Administration as well as a Master's in
Taxation. Walt's professional career progressed through positions for the U. S.
Internal Revenue Service, the Maryland State Comptroller's Office, the Anne
Arundel County Department of Finance, and the Anne Arundel County Auditor's
Office. He then returned to the Anne Arundel County Department of Finance
before retiring in 2015. Throughout his professional career, Walt also operated
his own private accounting firm. While at Annapolis High School, Walt enjoyed
participating in varsity sports which included being guard on the football team
and excelling while on the wrestling team. In college, he continued on the
wrestling team and was also a member of the rugby team. Walt was a member of
the Washington, DC Chapter of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association and
enjoyed attending their annual Kentucky Derby parties. An enthusiastic fan of
the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball team, Walt attended many games
at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky. Throughout his life, Walt enjoyed
watching college sports and participating in many sports including fishing,
softball, sailing, sky diving, white water rafting, and golfing. Along with
following college sports, Walt enjoyed attending and watching games of local
professional sports teams that included the Baltimore Colts and Baltimore
Ravens football teams, and the Baltimore Orioles baseball team. Throughout
Walt's life, he immensely enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Indiana and
Kentucky to visit his extended family. Walt had the opportunity to travel all
over the United States vacationing with his family and friends. Several times
Walt cruised to various locations including Alaska and the Caribbean. Walt's
favorite annual vacation spots were camping in Virginia with his family on the
Shenandoah River and on Chincoteague Island. Walt's philanthropic efforts
included volunteering with the South County Food Bank, Lothian Cub Scout Troop
850, Davidsonville Boy Scout Troop 454, Mayo Swim Team, South County Youth
Wrestling, Annapolis Area Christian School, Southern High School, and
Georgetown University. He served as treasurer for the Maryland Seafood Festival
for several years. For many years also, he and his wife enjoyed sponsoring
numerous U. S. Naval Academy Midshipmen and have remained in contact with most
of them. Walt also appreciated opportunities to serve our Lord and the
community through volunteer activities at St. James Parish in Lothian.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Walt's life at a visitation on
Friday, June 3, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973
Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. His funeral service will be held on
Saturday, June 4, at 11 AM at St. James Parish, 5757 Solomons Island Road,
Lothian, MD 20711, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
memorials in Walt's name may be made to St. James Parish. Online condolences

Walter Tolliver Passes Away
Walter was not a resident of Davidsonville, but he was well known in A. A. Co and was very active in many community activities including some in Davidsonville.
