Arthur Gorton Sands, III, 76, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD. Born on October 15, 1945 in Washington, DC to the late Jane and Arthur G. Sands Jr., Arthur grew up in Cheverly, MD and graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1963. He also attended Prince George's Community College and the University of Maryland in College Park, MD.
Arthur was a long-time independent insurance broker until his semi-retirement in 2012. Arthur was passionate about his Irish traditions and culture. He played the rhythm bones in the traditional Irish pub band, TIPSC. He performed in various Irish festivals in the Delmarva region and marched in five Baltimore Saint Patrick's Day parades. Arthur was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time tending to his impressive vegetable garden. He transformed the field in his backyard into a forest from seed. He also enjoyed photography, entertaining friends and reading.
Arthur is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Sands of Davidsonville, MD; his daughter, Cara Sands of Tampa, FL and his sister, Donna (Jerry) Underkoffler of Shippensburg, PA.
A private graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, MD. A public celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
