Kearney McQuilken Passes Away

    Kearney Ford "Mac" McQuilkin died on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at his home in the Heritage Harbour Community of Annapolis, MD. 
    Born on September 7, 1923, in Roanoke, VA to the late Dwight and Ethel McQuilkin, Mac graduated from Jefferson High School in June of 1942. He attended VPI ( VA Tech ) from the fall of 1942 until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy on December 12, 1942. He went to Navy Boot Camp in San Diego, CA where he attended the Machinist Mate School before being shipped off to the South Pacific. Mac was on the Liberty Ship #105 "Naos" and left San Diego in August of 1943 and returned to San Diego in December of 1945. Once stateside, he was transferred to Anacostia Naval Station in Washington, DC until he was honorably discharged in March of 1946. Mac served in the South Pacific and was a recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Victory Medal from the Department of War and Department of the Navy.                  Following his military service, Mac married Marie Groseclose on September 7, 1946, and re-enrolled in VPI from September of 1946 to June of 1949. They then moved to Takoma Park, MD where Mac attended Bliss Electrical School. He worked for the Washington mechanical engineering consulting firm H. Walton Redmile Co. before starting his own business K.F. McQuilkin Co. (later changed to AMES, Inc.) in 1957 as a Manufacturer's Rep for Weil Pump Co. Mac retired in 1991 when he sold his business to David and Frank McQuilkin. 
    On December 3, 1982, Mac married Jane Murray McQuilkin, and they resided in Heritage Harbour in Annapolis, MD where they had many friends, and Mac was "Club Champion"! 
    Mac is survived by his wife, Jane Murray McQuilkin of Alexandria, VA and Annapolis, MD; his former wife, Marie McQuilkin of Roanoke, VA and Sandy Springs,MD; three children from his first marriage, David (Kathy), Robert (Deborah) and Frank (Julie) McQuilkin; a step daughter, Kim Murray; six grandchildren, Stephanie, Jimmy, Kasey, Joey, Brett and Kelly; two step grandchildren, Thomas and Kara; four great-grandchildren, Waylon, Johnny, Cameron and Collins; a step great-grandchild, Karlee and two dogs, Duffy-2 and Susie-Q. 
    Friends and family are invited to celebrate Mac's life on Saturday, May 19 from 12 pm until his funeral service begins at 1 pm at Riva Trace Baptist Church, 475 Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy., Pasadena, Maryland 21122 (online at www.hospicechesapeake.org).
