A Davidsonville teenager has been charged with attempted murder
after police say he intentionally hit a 16-year-old with his vehicle in
Edgewater.
Nicholas
Kyle Hoffman, a 17-year-old senior at South River High School, was charged as
an adult Saturday with attempted first-degree murder, assault and reckless
endangerment following an incident one day earlier.
Anne
Arundel County police said officers responded about 3 p.m. Friday to a report
of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle near Fairhill Drive and Londontown Road.
Officers
found the 16-year-old suffering from severe injuries. He was taken to the University of
Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment.
Charging documents state the collision threw the victim onto the windshield of
the vehicle and caused head and possible internal injuries.
Witnesses
told police it was a premeditated attack, charging documents state.
The
victim had allegedly stolen some marijuana from Hoffman’s friend, charging
documents state, and interviews with police led them to believe Hoffman had
targeted the victim.
Hoffman is being held
pending a bail review Monday and was unavailable for comment. Court records do
not identify an attorney representing him.
