Deirdre O'Connor, 63, of Annapolis, MD, passed away on June 20, 2016.
Deirdre was born on April 5, 1953, and was a resident of Maryland and Washington, DC her entire life. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from Frostburg University in 1975 and a Master's degree in Education and Counseling from George Washington University in 1978. Deirdre taught at the Greenbelt Elementary School for more than 34 years before retiring to "live it up", as she would often say. She treasured her family, including her rescue dog, and was a loving mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, great aunt and loyal friend. She enjoyed live music; restaurants with a view, particularly on the water; tennis; and swimming. Her real passion though was traveling with friends and family, especially her daughter and sister. Her travels extended through South America, Africa, and across Europe, and also included her favorite spots in Annapolis, Delaware and the Big Apple; her bags were "always packed".
Deirdre is survived by her loving daughter, Alexa Montefiore Idol and son-in-law, James Idol of New York, NY; two brothers, Kevin O'Connor of Davidsonville, MD and Sean O'Connor of Laurel, MD; sister, Maura O'Connor of Annapolis, MD; and former husband, Gregg Montefiore with whom she remained lifelong friends.
A Memorial Mass will be offered for Deirdre at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2016, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403 or the Salvation Army of Annapolis, 351 Hilltop Lane, Annapolis, MD 21403.
