Complete Streets Working Group

From Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman:

County Executive Laura Neuman announced the county’s Complete Streets Working Group will convene on August 5, 2014, to continue the Transportation Commission’s study of Anne Arundel’s roadway planning and design to maximize safety and usability for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit users.

“The safety of our citizens is a top priority, and I am pleased that we are working to find efficient ways to improve our streets without fiscal impact,” said County Executive Laura Neuman. “I am confident this group will find solutions and provide recommendations to help make our roads safer for all users.”

Following the County Council’s February 2014 adoption of a resolution to implement a Complete Streets program, County Executive Neuman and Councilman Chris Trumbauer created the working group to evaluate the county’s code, design manual and other written guidance to determine changes necessary to implement a Complete Streets Policy.

The working group is composed of county employees, appointees and citizens, and includes the following members:

• Jim Schroll, County Traffic Engineer, Department of Public Works
• Dan Anderson, Chief, Transportation Engineering, Department of Public Works
• George Cardwell, Planning Administrator, Office of Planning and Zoning
• Dawn Thomas, Planner, Department of Recreation and Parks
• Jill Bezek, Americans with Disabilities Act Coordinator, Department of Aging and Disabilities
• Alex Pline, citizen, member of Transportation Commission (TC), member of Pedestrian/Bike Master Plan Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC)
• Parker Jones, citizen, bike advocate from Annapolis
• James Krapf, member appointed by Home Builders Association of Maryland
• David Cosner, member of TC, member of Corridor Growth CAC
• Susan Knisley, member of TC, member of Pedestrian/Bike Master Plan CAC
• Derek Meyers, member of TC, chaired Pedestrian/Bike Work Group of TC

Following its August 5 meeting, the working group will continue to meet periodically for several months, and will present a final report of its recommendations to the County Executive for upgrades to the county’s design manual and other county regulations.
