Winthrop College in Rock Hill, NC has announced the signing of soccer player Sam Schmidt from Davidsonville. He is graduating from Annapolis Area Christian School. He won a state title with his high school team at DeMatha High School. He played for the USSDA team of Bethesda-Olney which is a top-10 team nationally. Schmidt currently ranks eighth nationally in the USSDA in goals scored.
Per the Winthrop press release "Sam is one of the top goal scorers national in the US Soccer Developmental Academy and we are hoping that playing on one of the top Academy teams in the country will help make an easy transition to the college game," coach Posipanko said. "He has natural goal-scoring ability and is someone we can count on at a number of attacking positions."
