Linda Hunt Watkins Passes Away

On October 26, 2023, Linda Hunt Watkins (73) of Davidsonville, Maryland, passed away due to complications from multiple sclerosis. Her husband Lee; daughter, Kelly; son, James; daughter-in-law, Kelly; and sister, Marsha, were at her side.
Born May 15, 1950, to James and Maude Hunt, Linda grew up in Annapolis. She attended St. Mary's School in Annapolis through high school, then went on to St. Mary's College of Maryland, studying education. Linda met her husband, Lee, while they were teaching English together at Southern High School. They were married in 1974, and through this union she gained a daughter, Kelly. They welcomed their son, James, several years later. Linda was a devoted mother and never missed any of her children's activities. She spent much of her free time attending softball, lacrosse, and soccer games, horse shows, piano recitals, and band concerts. Lee and Linda were married for 49 years. When they first married, they relocated to Tucson, Arizona, for a year while Lee completed graduate school, after which they returned to settle in Davidsonville, Maryland. Linda was a well-loved English teacher at Bates Junior High in Annapolis for many years. She was very involved in school activities and was the staff sponsor of the student government for most of her tenure. Later in her career she transitioned to teaching at Annapolis High School for an additional several years. When out in public, she was often approached by current and past students that loved having her as a teacher. She had an amazing memory and would usually remember the student's name and details about their life, even for students she had taught decades prior. After retiring from teaching in 2004, Linda enjoyed spending time with friends and family, whether just getting a cup of coffee or lunch together, traveling with Lee to Williamsburg, Virginia, or having family over for dinner. She loved to shop, and her daughter, Kelly, fondly remembers annual birthday shopping trips. Her son, James, warmly recalls her passion for food and the many family meals they enjoyed together at local restaurants over the years.
Linda is preceded in death by her father, James Hunt, and her mother, Maude Hunt. She is survived by her husband, Calvin Lee Watkins, her daughter, Kelly (Watkins) Kanaras, her son, James Watkins (Kelly Zuknick Watkins), her sister Marsha McNabb, and four grandchildren: Alexander, Benjamin, Madeleine, and Mackenzie.
Visitations will be held Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at John M. Taylor Funeral Home in Annapolis, Maryland from 2-4 pm and from 6-8 pm.
