Ruth Evelyn McKay, 92, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 28, 2014, in Davidsonville, Md.
She was the daughter of Howard D. and Ida Pearl McKay of New Bremen.
She is survived by one son, Mark Polansky Sr., one grandson, Mark Polansky Jr., and one great-grandson, Robert Jacob Polansky.
She lived a life most people dream of. After graduating New Bremen High School in 1939, she entered Heidelberg College in Tiffen, graduating in 1943 with a bachelor degree in music.
She then became an airline stewardess, first flying with Trans World Airlines on DC-3 airplanes.
She later flew with American Airlines until 1947.
She was married to Elliott Polansky, the first pilot employed by Crown Control to fly parts and people to various locations in the Midwest.
She later married Dr. Eugene Barnes, a prominent dentist in Dayton. Both ex-husbands pre-deceded her in death.
Ruth was a swimming instructor and lifeguard in New Bremen and while at Heidelberg College.
She traveled to six of the seven continents, often with movie stars, politicians, and other celebrities, missing only Antarctica.
A private memorial service will be held in Maryland.
