Alvin O'Dell Passes Away








    Alvin Eugene O'Dell, 75, a 58-year resident of Davidsonville, died October 14 at his daughter's home in Harwood following a five-year battle with cancer.
     Born October 16, 1937 in Pulaski, VA to the late Robert and Ellen O'Dell, Alvin attended Old Southern High School. He went to work for his father's logging company and later became the owner and operator of O'Dell Logging in Davidsonville. He was also a partner in O'Dell Excavating. Alvin was a member of Weems Creek Baptist Church in Annapolis for 53 years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, cooking and especially spending time with his family.
    In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jacob and Mary O'Dell and Jobie and Lena Smith; his brother, Robert "Donnie" O'Dell; and sister, Mary Agnes Lawson.
    He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Arlene O'Dell; two sons, Alvin E. O'Dell Jr. and Robert D. O'Dell both of Davidsonville; his daughter, Marie O'Dell of Harwood; sister, Sylvia Ellen Smith of Davidsonville, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
    Friends are invited to Alvin's Life Celebration from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 18, at Weems Creek Baptist Church, 600 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
