Michael Bender Passes Away

     Michael Jude Bender, 71, was surrounded by family and friends at home as he went home to be with Jesus on August 26, 2021 after an 11-year battle with ALS.

    Mike is survived by his wife of 50 years, Debbie Bender; his 7 children, Mike, Danny, Josh, Leah, Rachel, Jacob and Jesse; his 13 grandchildren, Britnie, Kaylie, Maddie, Jaden, Jack, Abbie, Luke, Nick, Riley, LB, Caleb, Brennan and Mox; his sisters, Dorrie McDonald and Mary Siddons; and his brother, Steve Bender. He is predeceased by his parents; Phillip and Dorris Bender; and his siblings, Phillip Bender and Bobbi Bender.
    Mike was born on June 24, 1950 in Washington, DC and grew up in Seabrook, MD. He graduated from Duval High School in 1968. Mike married the love of his life on February 13, 1971 and together they created a beautiful family in Mayo, MD. He was a loyal employee at Giant Food driving tractor trailers for 25 years. He was also the owner of Mike's Sign Service for many years. Mike was a kind, hardworking man and an amazing husband, father and Granddaddy. He enjoyed riding his Harley, watching football and most of all spending time with family and friends. He was a devoted Christian and stayed steadfast in God throughout his battle with ALS. His character, strength and faith were exemplar as his spirit shined. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all that knew him!
     A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday, September 26, 2021 at 1:00 at Chesapeake Christian Fellowship in Davidsonville, MD. Reception to follow. Motorcycle Procession: Meet at 12:00 at American Legion Post 226 Edgewater, MD
