From the Capital-Gazette:
Tim Walters
The account of
Tim Walters, the self-proclaimed co-founder of ReOpen Maryland, reveals him to
be the most selfish, narcissistic and irrational person not currently occupying
the White House (The Capital, June 27).
While he
undoubtedly considers himself a great patriot exercising the freedom guaranteed
by the Constitution, it is clear that he either never read that document or
doesn’t understand even the Preamble. There is no “I”, “me” or “mine”. There is
“We the people…”
There is the
declaration of purposes for which the Constitution was proclaimed, including
“promote the general welfare…” There follows a plan to protect the common
welfare, a commitment that “We” collectively care for each other and join in
the defense of the country, and respect each other’s unique beliefs as well as
our common values.
The
Constitution compels us to endure, but not endorse, Walters’ agenda; his
personal crusade against science, the guidance of the CDC and State of
Maryland, and the consequences to society of the defiance he advocates.
Forgive the
blasphemy, but if Walters’ illness is the result of Satan, as he suggests,
trying to “quiet my work” by preventing him from enlisting others in his
anti-social behavior, then it must be apparent that even Satan agrees that
wearing a mask, social distancing and cooperating to track those exposed to the
virus “promotes the general welfare” by thwarting the spread of COVID-19.
Should he
recover and found his church, let’s hope Walters bolts the doors from the
inside.
