Linda Kreunen Passes Away

Linda Kreunen, 73, of Davidsonville, Maryland, passed away on June 27, 2020. Born in Wichita Falls, Texas, on July 27, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Relyea Dan and Jennie (Donnel) Boone and sister to the late Svlvia Ayers, the late Danny Boone, and brother David (Missy) Boone.
Linda was married to Calvin John Kreunen for 54 years and was blessed with two children, the late Adam Christian (Chris) Kreunen and Kimberly Faith Evans. She is also survived by her son-in-law Sean Evans; daughter-in-law Beth Freeman; and six amazing grandchildren who called her Grandy: Evey, Bekah, Kristi, Keri, CJ, and Jonathan. Linda also referred to Dan and Rachel Nash as her children-in-love, and she received great joy from being called Mama Kreunen by Hannah, James, Caleb, Esther, Abby, Naomi, Becky, and Hope. She was also known as Aunt Dada or Aunt Linda by many nieces and nephews.
Linda was a member of Bridge Church in Annapolis for many years and recently attended Sovereign Grace Church. She had a positive impact in so many places including Harvest Church of God in Edgewater, Cornerstone Church in Bowie, and New Life Assembly in Odenton.
The joy of her life was being with and caring for those she loved, especially her family. She often said that seeing her grandchildren was life giving. Her life was spent looking for ways to reach out and care for others and to share the love of Jesus with them. Linda was genuinely interested in getting to know and bless everyone she met. She became a mom to many. Linda spent many years visiting and ministering to those in prison and in the hospital, and she studied to become a licensed minister. She also invited others to join her at home for Bible study and prayer. In her earlier years, she worked as a teacher and teachers’ aide in private and public schools. She received her bachelor's degree from Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas. One of her treasured memories was that she graduated from college the same year as her mother.
Linda loved to garden, to read good books, to go out with friends or relax and enjoy sitting on the back porch. She was truly an inspiration and blessing to many, and the impact she had on those around her will carry on in their hearts.

$501,000,000 Attempted Theft

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Fraudsters tried to swindle Maryland out of $501 million worth of unemployment claims, Gov. Larry Hogan said at a Wednesday press conference. The widespread scam used the stolen identities of 47,500 people from 12 different states.
Maryland blocked the fraudulent claims, saving the state a half a billion dollars. Hogan said this was an large-scale, organized criminal act.
The Maryland Department of Labor caught the fraud over the weekend of July 4 when it noticed an influx of out-of-state residents applying for Maryland's unemployment insurance. These identities were not stolen from Maryland's unemployment database, Hogan emphasized. The stolen identities came from previous federal breaches, he said.
Hogan said the identities of people who filed for unemployment insurance in Maryland were not compromised. Anybody who fears their information was stolen should email ui.fraud@maryland.gov

C-19 Increases In MD

Maryland reported Tuesday its largest daily increase in coronavirus hospitalizations since late May.
The state's health department is now reporting 415 hospitalizations. That's an increase of 29 patients over the prior day. Before Tuesday, the largest single-day increase was recorded on May 26, with 39 new patients.
In a tweet Tuesday morning, Gov. Larry Hogan urged residents to wear face coverings and social distance.
As of Tuesday, there have been 74,260 positive infections. That's an increase of 733 new cases overnight.
Eight more deaths were also added Tuesday, pushing the state's fatality count to 3,202.
That new total, however, does not include the 132 others who deaths were linked to the virus, but never confirmed by a lab test. They are considered "probable deaths" — and will not be added to the official total until officials can confirm the cause of death.

Annual DACA Election

From the DACA Villager
The annual meeting did not take place in June, nor in July.
Rather than wait to see if the general membership
is willing to come out in August, the Board has
decided to conduct a vote by email for those who have
it, and by USPS mail vote for those who do not use
email. After this Villager is delivered by USPS, postcard
ballots will be mailed to 39 non-email users, with a
three-week time limited deadline for reply. We must
conduct a vote for officers and board members For the
first time, all members will have the opportunity to vote
without attending an annual meeting.
All officers must be elected to a one-year term. The
incumbent officers (Bruce Stein, Ed Woods, Gail
Enright, and Brian Stanton) have agreed to serve another
term, and volunteers may be nominated. The Board of
Directors will have four slots open in the term to June
2023. Jeff Bishop, Kate Fox, and Wayne Reid have
volunteered to continue in place through June 2023.
DACA needs a volunteer to fill the vacant slot formerly
held by Martin Zehner.

D'ville Post Office To Move

From the DACA Villager:

Richard Hancock is the Real Estate Specialist for the U.S.
Postal Service who conducted the community meeting
last summer to inform the local citizens about the removal
of the Davidsonville post office. It is to be moved
from its present location on land owned by Holy Family
Church. The lease will expire in September 2020. DACA
member Debbie Oakes has continued to follow the matter
and report on any progress in the relocation process.
In March, Mr. Hancock replied to her inquiry: “We
are working on a proposed site that works operationally
and economically for our requirements. We are still in
active negotiations so we cannot identify the location to
the public at this time. We should be able to do so in the
next 30 to 60 days. Please feel free to check back with me
for additional information at that time.”
On June 3, he wrote again to Debbie, “we are still
moving forward on the relocation project but nothing has
been finalized. We are also working with the church on
a lease extension to maintain our operations in place
while the project is completed. The time lines have
changed due to the health crisis and economic challenges
it has caused.” Mr. Hancock can be reached at

Gary Wittlin On Tim Walters

From the Capital-Gazette:

Tim Walters

The account of Tim Walters, the self-proclaimed co-founder of ReOpen Maryland, reveals him to be the most selfish, narcissistic and irrational person not currently occupying the White House (The Capital, June 27).
While he undoubtedly considers himself a great patriot exercising the freedom guaranteed by the Constitution, it is clear that he either never read that document or doesn’t understand even the Preamble. There is no “I”, “me” or “mine”. There is “We the people…”
There is the declaration of purposes for which the Constitution was proclaimed, including “promote the general welfare…” There follows a plan to protect the common welfare, a commitment that “We” collectively care for each other and join in the defense of the country, and respect each other’s unique beliefs as well as our common values.
The Constitution compels us to endure, but not endorse, Walters’ agenda; his personal crusade against science, the guidance of the CDC and State of Maryland, and the consequences to society of the defiance he advocates.
Forgive the blasphemy, but if Walters’ illness is the result of Satan, as he suggests, trying to “quiet my work” by preventing him from enlisting others in his anti-social behavior, then it must be apparent that even Satan agrees that wearing a mask, social distancing and cooperating to track those exposed to the virus “promotes the general welfare” by thwarting the spread of COVID-19.
Should he recover and found his church, let’s hope Walters bolts the doors from the inside.

He is survived by his sister, Shirley Ruth Koetting, of Ellisville, MO, his two daughters, Erin Hollamon (husband Vassie) and Maureen Dickerson, both of Davidsonville; eight grandchildren, Vassie Tad, Hannah (husband Daniel Rodriguez), Kathryn, Rebecca, and Charles Hollamon, Kristen, Carly, and Ian Dickerson; and two great-grandsons, Trent Fischer and Torin Henry Jacobs. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews who fondly referred to him as "Uncle Red".
