Pat Spencer Lacrosse Team Captain

    Pat Spencer of Davidsonville and a senior on the Loyola mens lacrosse team.  He is one of four players selcected as team captains for this year.
    Spencer is a three-time All-American and two-time Tewaaraton Award finalist for the Greyhounds who has broken several Loyola and Patriot League records in only three years. The three-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and 2018 USILA Lt. Col. J.I. (Jack) Turnbull Award winner as the nation's top attacker, set the school and conference record for career assists (166), while also breaking the Patriot League points record and moving into second all-time at Loyola in the category (266). He will enter 2019 in 10^th-place all-time in NCAA Division I in assists and 28^th in points.

Terri Aisquith Passes Away

     Terri L. Aisquith, 55, of Davidsonville, MD, passed away November 23, 2018, at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She endured many years of complications with MS and fought a hard battle. 
     Born September 11, 1963, in Palmerton, PA, she was the daughter of Janet R. Neff and the late Allen C. Neff of Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Terri was employed as a civilian employee at the United States Naval Academy, serving a 22-year career, prior to being forced into an early disability retirement. She was an avid baseball fan, especially fond of her favorite team-the beloved Boston Red Sox. 
     Terri was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Aisquith, and her father, Allen C. Neff. In addition to her mother, Terri is survived by a son, James "JJ" L. Aisquith, Jr.; a brother, Gregory A. Neff; a niece, Heather L. Neff; three special aunts; and many other relatives and friends. She will also be missed by her beloved little dog, Buddy. 
     A memorial service to celebrate Terri's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to The National MS Society, 6520 N. Andrew Ave., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33309 or the , 405 Williams Ct., Ste. 120, Baltimore, MD 21220.

Fred Crossley, Jr. Passes Away

    Born August 30th 1933, Passed to Jesus November 26th 2018. Survived by wife Charlene and brother William Crosley; three children Rhea, Judy and Dorr ; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. 
    Fred honorably served in the Army stationed in Germany during the Korean War.Later Fred became an International Trade Specialist for the U.S. Department of Commerce. He was lead on organizing major businesses like G.E. who followed him to trade missions in the Soviet Bloc countries. This strategic free market leadership was a part in bringing down the Soviet Union wall ending the cold war. As a father he was an anchor to what is good and noble in the sight of God and man. For over 30 years, Fred and Charlene served with Gideon International passing out bibles to local businesses and doctors offices and ministering at the prison. They were known to ask servers in restaurants if they had any prayer need. They always gave a Bible and a generous tip. He is a great man from a great generation and we are sure the Lord will put him to good use in heaven. Our family praises and thanks God for such a wonderful dad.
    A memorial service and celebration of Fred's life will be held on Thursday, November 29 at 2 PM at Grace EP Church, 4012 Birdsville Road, Davidsonville, MD. Private interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Sligo, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon International Processing Center, P.O. Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090-7251.

John Bushee Passes Away

    John Harrison Bushée, 84, a 49-year resident of Davidsonville, MD, passed away on November 24, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at the Mandrin Inpatient Care Center.        Born on September 14, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Aden and Mary Katherine Bushée, John and his family relocated to Pittsburgh, PA where he graduated from high school. A veteran of the U.S. Army, John made his career in the printing industry, eventually starting and managing his own business, Bushée Graphics. A man of many interests, John enjoyed reading, bowling, golfing, dancing and watching sports, especially when the Steelers were playing. He also enjoyed making people laugh with his engaging sense of humor. His greatest joy though came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 
    John is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Audrey B. Bushée; his children, Lisa A. (Michael) Black of Lexington, SC, Denise B. (Eddie) Blowe of Edgewater, MD and Daniel J. (Faith) Bushée of Edgewater; one sister, Nancy Alsing of Leesburg, FL; seven grandchildren, Shelby Black Flinchum, Nicki and Kasey Blowe, Alyssa and Lacee Black and Olivia and Leila Bushée and two great-grandchildren. 
    Friends are invited to celebrate John's life with his family on Saturday, December 1 from 11 a.m. until a Memorial Mass begins at 12 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Road, Edgewater, MD. Bernard Roche Passes Away

    Bernard "Bernie" Joseph Roche, Jr., 82, of Davidsonville, MD, formerly of Reisterstown, MD, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD.
    Born on August 4, 1936, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Bernard J. Roche, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth Ambrose Roche. He was the loving husband of Carolyn J. Freeny Roche. Bernie was a self-employed, small town photographer in Reisterstown for sixty years. At one time, we thought he had done everyone's wedding in Reisterstown. He always told the undertaker, "When you come to get my body, don't drop the camera!" Unfortunately, he had to retire since his ailing health made it hard for him to stand. He always said he was the luckiest man alive because he made his living with his hobby.He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for sixty years.
    Surviving in addition to his wife are children: Mary Elizabeth Snee and husband Michael of Alabama, Mary Deanna Thode and husband Pierre of Florida, Sharon Marie Hood and husband Kyle of Hanover, PA, Bernard "Tony" J. Roche, III, and significant other Jan Zeller of Baltimore, MD, stepchildren: Connie Lynn Holler Mulder and husband Tim, and John Wesley Holler and wife Josi, both from Pennsylvania, 18 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.He was predeceased by his daughter: Ellen Marie Roche, and first wife: Deanna Pomory Roche.

Connor Cox Final Game At Frostburg

    The 13^th-ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays scored 29 points in the third quarter to pull away from sixth-ranked Frostburg for a 58-27 win in the second round of the 2018 NCAA Playoffs, Saturday at an icy and chilly Bobcat Stadium.
    QB Connor Cox of Davidsonville threw 24 completions for 355 yards and two TDs with two interceptions.

Eathan Doudna On Gonzaga Team

The Gonzaga College football team captured the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship on a last-second Hail Mary pass against DeMatha on Sunday.   Gonzaga finished 8-3 and avenged a triple overtime loss to DeMatha in the regular season.

Eathan Doudna of Davidsonville is a freshman on the championship team. 

Heather Bagnall New Dist 33 Delegate

Anne Arundel County Democrat Heather Bagnall had to wait 10 days after the election for it to become final, but with the last absentee ballots counted on Friday, she became the newest incoming member of the General Assembly.

When all the votes were counted, Bagnall received 184 votes more than District 33 incumbent Del. W. Anthony McConkey (R), to finish third. She had been trailing by 645 votes after election night, but steadily gained ground as provisional and absentee ballots were counted.

Bagnall’s victory means there will be 99 Democrats in the House of Delegates next year, a pickup of eight seats over the previous legislative class.

Bagnall, an arts educator, will be the only Democrat representing her district – and she becomes the first Democratic House member in the Crofton-Davidsonville-area district since former Del. Marsha G. Perry, who served from 1987-1999. Republican Delegates Michael Edward Malone and Sid Saab were reelected, with Malone finishing in the top spot.

The Republican primary in the race attracted attention and outside spending from the House Republican Caucus Committee after Anne Arundel County Councilman Jerry Walker (R) ran against the incumbents. The caucus spent tens of thousands of dollars on mailers attacking Walker – money that could have been spent on preserving the seat in the general election.

Bagnall’s campaign was credited with focusing on occasional voters and an absentee ballot campaign that pushed her past McConkey in the general election.

“I set out to prove that a strong message, and a positive, community focused campaign centered around voter education and engagement, and local issues could outperform a huge war chest. I think we proved that beyond a doubt, not only because we surpassed Delegate McConkey but also because we were within 700 votes of Delegate Saab as well,” Bagnall wrote in an email to supporters on Saturday.

Patricia Nally Retiring

Patricia “Patty” Nalley is retiring from the AA Co. school board after nearly 50 years in teaching and school administration.    She was the first principal of Davidsonville Elem. and has been on the school board for the last 11 1/2 years.

Margaret Estes Passes Away

    Margaret Frances "Maggie" Estes, 66, a resident of Davidsonville, MD for 26 years and previously of Bowie, MD, died on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. 
    Born on October 29, 1952 in Washington, DC to the late John Fillmore and Mary Ellen Rogers, Maggie graduated in 1970 from Parkdale High School in Riverdale, MD. She grew up in College Park, MD where she could always be found outside roughhousing with her eight brothers. Maggie worked for Bell Atlantic/ Verizon in their Calverton office for 32 years, retiring as a software analyst in 2003. Early in her career she played for the Bell Atlantic softball team. Maggie enjoyed traveling with her husband and being with her family. She had an extremely close relationship with her mother and her daughter and cherished her grandson, Tommy. She very much enjoyed attending Tommy's various sporting events and was his biggest fan. Maggie had a selfless nature and was always helping others. 
    She is survived by her husband, Richard William Estes whom she married on February 27, 1977; her daughter, Lorrie Lee (Roy) Dietrich of Davidsonville, MD; her siblings, John Francis Rogers of Roxboro, NC, Paul William Rogers of Port Charlotte, FL, Charles Fillmore Rogers of Homosassa, FL, Edward LeRoy Rogers of Davidsonville, MD, Mary Ellen Jones of Thurmont, MD, James Noble Rogers of Friendship, MD and Michael Joseph Rogers of South Daytona, FL and her grandson, Thomas William Dietrich. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Stephen Melvin Rogers and Robert Lee Rogers. 
    Friends are invited to celebrate Maggie's life at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Monday, November 19 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Bob Bartlett's Play "The Accident Bear"

Davidsonville playwrite Bob Bartlett has written a very unusual  play which will be performed in Annapolis Nov. 30 to Dec. 22

Bob is quoted in DC Metro "Before I bought my house in Davidsonville, MD, I was living in a wonderful, old apartment in Downtown Annapolis – without a washer and dryer – that was within walking distance of plenty of great places to write, including cafes, coffee shops, bookstores, restaurants, bars, and a coin-operated laundromat. I’m a writer who needs to write in a variety of locations and often surrounded by activity and white noise, so while I was doing my weekly laundry, I decided to write a play set in my local laundromat. While I’ve written with specific locations in mind, I’d never written for a location in that location. And because laundromats are rumored to be great pick-up spots, I wrote The Accident Bear, my first attempt at a romantic comedy, albeit a time-shifting and darkish one.'

Farm Bureau Has Five $2,000 Scholarships

DAVIDSONVILLE — The Maryland Farm Bureau is offering five $2,000 scholarships to college students in 2019.

Applicants must be high school seniors starting college in fall 2019 or full-time college students at any community college or four-year institution. Applicants or their parents/guardians must be members of Maryland Farm Bureau. Three of the scholarships will be offered to agricultural curriculum majors and two scholarships will be offered to non-agricultural or agricultural curriculum majors.

Selection will be made by a committee designated by Maryland Farm Bureau. To apply, students must return the application form (available at www.mdfarmbureau.com/scholarships) with a current photo and an essay responding to the following question:

“Technology is one of the driving forces for innovation and advancement in agriculture. How can the industry attract the best and brightest minds from STEM into agricultural careers?”

Essays should be limited to two pages, typed, 12-point font, double spaced with normal margins. No identifying information should be used. For example, no college names, no 4-H club names, no town or county names, etc. Any identifying information appearing in the essay will disqualify the application. The selection committee will evaluate each essay anonymously. No student can receive this scholarship more than four times.

The Maryland Farm Bureau receive applications and photos by 4 p.m. Feb. 1. Applications and photos should be emailed to scholarship@mdfarmbureau.com. A confirmation email will be sent upon receipt of the scholarship application. Scholarships will be awarded to winning applicants in conjunction with high school graduation programs or prior to the beginning of the fall semester. The winner’s scholarship check will be made out to the student and the college. The committee reserves the right to interview scholarship applicants if they feel it necessary for determination of winners.

Roy Clark Passes Away

    Former Davidsonville resident Roy Clark, the legendary country singer and host of "Hee Haw", has died.

    A rep for the Grammy, CMA and ACM Award winner says Clark died Thursday morning at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Clark had recently contracted pneumonia and ultimately passed because of complications from the illness.  
    Clark has been performing since the age of 14, and was one of the first artists to land singles on both the pop and country charts.  He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2009.  The ultimate showman,  Roy played the guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica and many other instruments.

Ervin Lehnert Passes Away

    Ervin Lehnert, age 89, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family at his home in Annapolis, on Monday, November 12, 2018.
    He was born on June 12, 1929, in Cameron Texas. He was the youngest of 6 children born to the late Richard and Philameno Lehnert. Ervin attended Cameron Texas schools and graduated in 1947. Following graduation, Ervin served in the United States Air Corp. He met his beloved late wife of 63 years, Florence, when he was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base. They married and moved to Silver Spring where they began their family. After his tour of duty, Ervin became employed by the Central Intelligence Agency. In 1965 Ervin, Florence, and their two sons moved to Davidsonville where they remained for 27 years. After raising their family, Ervin and Florence moved to Heritage Harbor in Annapolis. Ervin retired in 1995 and was awarded Intelligence Achievement Award. Ervin was of the Catholic faith. After moving to Davidsonville, he became a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville. He enjoyed attending services, and rarely missed a Sunday for 50+ years. Ervin enjoyed vegetable gardening. He was an avid sports fan and cherished victories from the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Redskins. Throughout his life, he enjoyed keeping up with current events via daily newspapers and television broadcasts. He was a devoted, and loving husband, father and grandfather. Ervin will be remembered by all who knew him as a quiet, gentle, and kind man who loved God and his family.
    Ervin is survived by two sons, Rick Lehnert and his wife Mary Beth of Verona, VA, and Barry Lehnert and wife Suzette of Davidsonville, MD; a grandson, Justin Lehnert of Staunton, VA; a sister Rosalie Meak of Cameron, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 4-6pm at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD.

Walter Fatzinger Passes Away

    Walter Robert Fatzinger, Jr., resident of Bradenton, FL and longtime resident of Davidsonville, MD passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2018. 

    Beloved husband of Helen Consolvo Fatzinger. He is survived by his sister, Judith Ann Fatzinger, his three children: Walter R. Fatzinger, III, Christine Fatzinger Long and Eric A. Fatzinger. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Walter received his Law Degree from The American University. He was an influential and dominant figure in the trust and investment banking community in the Baltimore and Washington, DC area for over 50 years. At the time of his death, he was serving on the boards of ManTech International, Chevy Chase Trust Company, ASB Capital Management, The University System of Maryland Foundation and The Mary and Daniel Loughran Foundation.

Cox Leads Frostburg To Perfect Reguar Season

    Frostburg (9-0) defeated Salisbury (7-2) 38-35 on Saturday.  The win  hands the Bobcats the '18 NJAC Title and league's automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs.
     Davidsonville's Connor Cox  finished the afternoon as the Mike McGlinchey MVP for Frostburg after throwing for 215 yards and four touchdowns in the final regular season game.    Frostburg will now go into the NCAA playoffs.

This weekend Davidsonville United Methodist Church, 819 W. Central Ave., is hosting its second Alternative Market, a fair-trade pop-up shop, offering sustainably sourced, handmade pieces you won’t find in a mall.

The United Methodist Women partnered with Ten Thousand Villages in Baltimore, to help women by supporting local business women, women artisans from around the globe and YWCA’s Arden House in Arnold, which provides services for women and children in domestic violence situations much closer to home.

“All of the church’s proceeds for this event go to Arden House,” said Barb Moore, one of the organizers of this event.

Peggy Stevens Passes Away

    Peggy Joyce Stevens, 85, a 47-year resident of Little Flower Hill Farm in Edgewater, passed away on November 1, 2018, at Anne Arundel Medical Center. 
    Peggy was born on December 10, 1932, in Verda, Kentucky. During her career, she worked as a secretary for over 16 years at the Department of the Navy and briefly for Camp Letts in Edgewater but her most cherished position was a homemaker, taking care of her children and working on the farm. Peggy's hobbies included gardening, playing bridge and entertaining. Her annual Christmas parties were well loved and well attended. She also loved the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and also living at her vacation home in the Cayman Islands. 
    She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James Stevens, her children; William Stevens and his wife Carol of Edgewater and Lynne Prenatt and her husband Robert of Annapolis, her brother Pete Thompson of Tennessee. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Rebecca, Evelyn, Jimmy, Dahlia, Georgianna, Sam, Celine, Nichole, Lydia, Eva and William, and her great-grandchildren Chad and Quinten.

Gregory Coale Passes Away

    Gregory J. Coale passed away on November 1 at the age of 67. 
    He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas J. Coale of Annapolis in 1989 and Ida C. (Homberg) Coale of Annapolis in 1994, and his brother Ronald B. Coale of Westminster in 1999. Gregory is survived by his wife Ellen Anne (Burke) Coale of Pasadena, brother Dennis G. Coale (Barbara) of Crownsville, and numerous other family and friends. 
    Gregory was born in Annapolis on July 12, 1951. He was a graduate of St. Mary's in Annapolis and completed his Bachelors degree at Salisbury State University. He worked with Social Security for 46 years. He also worked as a professional actor, and spent most of his free time acting. He performed in many plays and movies across the Baltimore, Washington and Annapolis area, including a role as Sheriff in the movie One Eyed Horse. Everyone always looked forward to seeing Greg in some role in the popular play A Christmas Carol. Greg was also a member of South River Bible Church in Davidsonville. 
    A visitation will be held on Sunday November 4 from 7-9pm at Hardesty Funeral Home, P.A., 12 Ridgely Ave., Annapolis, MD 21401, where a funeral service will be held at 10am on Monday November 5. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Annapolis. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy., Pasadena, MD 21122.

Laura McClay Passes Away

    Laura A. McClay, 66, a retired U.S. Navy Captain and nurse practitioner, died of cancer Oct. 31 at her home in Severna Park, Md. 
    Laura was born in Salzburg, Austria to Dorothy and Ferdinand Richter. As a child, she lived with her family, including two brothers and a sister, in California, Texas and St. Louis, Mo. A military family, they also lived in Kentucky and Colorado. She attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in St. Louis and Avila College in Kansas City, where she received a bachelor's degree in nursing. She received her master's degree in Trauma Critical Care from University of Maryland, Baltimore in 1988. There, she also directed and taught courses. She received a post-graduate degree in Primary Care, Family Nurse Practitioner, from Bowie State University in 2003. Laura joined the U.S. Naval Reserves in 1974 as a clinical nurse. Her activated reserve included serving at the Bethesda Naval Hospital during Desert Shield/Storm in 1991; two tours on the USNS Comfort, where she provided critical care education; and at the Bethesda Naval Hospital during Iraqi Freedom in 2004. She was on active duty for Charleston Naval Hospital's ICU from 1974 to 1978. Laura began her career as a registered nurse at Anne Arundel Medical Center's Emergency Room and ICU, where worked for 32 years. She served as a Family Nurse Practitioner for Righttime Care in Davidsonville, Md., from 2004 to 2013 and for Express Care Urgent Care Centers in Bel Air, Md., from 2013 to 2017. She was an active parishioner of St. John's the Evangelist in Severna Park, where served in various ministries. She also attended weekly Miles Christi Faith Formation meetings. Laura prioritized her family time. She planned numerous family vacations around the country. She was an avid painter, having painted her family's annual Christmas cards. Throughout her life she enjoyed cross stitching, sewing, and gardening.         She is survived by her husband Timothy S. McClay; a daughter, Rebecca L. McClay; two sons, Ryan M. McClay and Daniel P. McClay; and two grandchildren, Hunter and Claire; her siblings Sharon, Larry and Bob. 
    Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD, 21146. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 10am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD, 21146. A visitation will be held in Kansas on November 12 with a funeral mass and interment on November 13th.
