Alice L. Wood of Glencoe, IL passed away at her home on Sunday, October 23, 2016.
She was born in Washington, DC, on June 30, 1924, to the late Vandeveer and Rebecca Moreland. She married Albert S. Wood in 1942, and she and her husband moved to Illinois in 2005. A graduate of Park High School in Seat Pleasant, MD, Alice worked as a legal secretary serving under Judge O. Bowie Duckett. In 1984, she retired from public service after 17 years as the Jury Commissioner for Anne Arundel County.
Alice was an active member of Davidsonville United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. She also enjoyed visiting the elderly and sick, singing for weddings, and performing duets with her sister-in-law, Joy Wood.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert S. Wood; a sister, Mildred L. Tierney, and a grandson, Daniel. Alice is survived by two daughters, E. Diane (Rick Persky) Kirkman of Connecticut, and Deborah (Robert) Riley of Illinois; a brother, Kenneth V. Moreland of Florida; two sisters, Evelyn C. Hamilton, and Audrey O'Leary, both of Florida; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Alice's life on Wednesday, October 26 from 4 to 8 pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11am, at Davidsonville United Methodist Church, 819 West Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD 21035. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
