Lillian V. Springer, a 3-year resident of Riva and previously of Silver Spring and Chevy Chase, MD, passed away on February 21, 2015 at the Rutherford Manor in Davidsonville, two days shy of her 98th birthday.
One of ten children, Lillian was born on February 23, 1917 to the late John and Elizabeth Wilkinson and graduated from Baden High School in Brandywine. In 1937, she married Norman Springer and, for the next 25 years until Norman's death in 1962, they raised a family that included seven children.
Lillian worked for 17 years at GEICO. She enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing. She would go dancing several times a week until she was well into her 80s. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville. Lillian's passion though was her family and she treasured the time she spent with them.
In addition to her husband, Lillian was preceded in death by two sons, Norman, Jr. and Michael. She is survived by five children, Bob (the late Joan) Springer of Kentucky, Joan (the late Bill) Bowen of Delaware, Daniel (Diane) Springer of Washington, John (Julie) Springer of Kentucky and Dave (Edie) Springer of Maryland; a brother, Leslie Wilkinson of Florida; a sister, Eleanor Estes of North Carolina; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 28 from 10 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial begins at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities, 320 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.
