Davidsonville grandfather Joe Dickey is a member of The Other Band, a quartet playing a concert Wednesday, April 17, at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis. He’s also part of Shenandoah Run, a nine-piece ensemble from Northern Virginia devoted to folk music. And, the 74 year old is renowned for his wood turning abilities which are showcased in the next article on this web site.
The Annapolis-based Other Band formed over the course of several jam sessions and has been together three years. The other members include a couple engineers and an entomologist. Two are retired, one is semi-retired, and the youngest is 66.
The band got its unique name at a show where another group was also playing. Dickey said they overheard someone say, “That’s the other band.”
The Other Band is composed of Mike Siegert on mandolin, Dickey on banjo, Karl Neidhardt on bass and John Shields on guitar and lead vocalist who are shown in the below photo rehearsing at Dickey’s home last week.
