Diane "Tickle" Jurik Passes Away

    Diane "Tickie" Jurik, 69, a longtime resident of Davidsonville, died peacefully March 31 at her home surrounded by family.
    Born October 30, 1943 in Washington, DC to the late Joseph and Marion Lynch, Tickie spent most of her childhood and teenage years in Rock Creek Park. She developed a pen-pal relationship with a Navy seaman, named Neil Jurik, and fell in love with him while he was stationed in Norfolk, VA. They married in 1965.
    After retiring from the State of Maryland, she followed her passion for taking care of her family. Tickie was a devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville. She was committed to her faith and proud to be an American.
    Tickie was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Chupp; and her brother, Kelly Lynch.
    She is survived by her husband, Neil; two sons, Kevin and his wife, Sandy, of Huntingtown, and Neil and his wife, Jennifer, of Davidsonville; daughter, Stephanie Cannon and her husband, Buddy, of Lothian; brother, Jack Lynch of Aldie, VA; six sisters, Jill Cocchiaro of New Carrollton, M. Kay Greiser of Media, PA, Claudia J. McGowan of Grasonville, Adelaide Lynch Summitt of New Baltimore, VA, Susie Frazelle of Gainesville, TX, and Donna Perkins of Calabash, NC; and three grandchildren, Nicholas, Rebecca and Lillian.
    Friends are invited to Tickie's Life Celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 5, at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 6, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD 21035. Interment 10 a.m. Thursday, April 11, at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church. An online guestbook is available at
