Barbara D. Whittington, 85, a lifelong resident of Davidsonville, MD died of natural causes at her daughter's home in Shady Side, MD on Monday, April 3, 2023.
Born February 16, 1938, in Davidsonville, MD to the late Earl and Jessie Leitch. She attended the original Davidsonville Elementary School and graduated from Annapolis High School. She was the longest-living member of Davidsonville United Methodist Church. She drove a school bus for 33 years for Johnny and Barbara Carr. Barbara enjoyed gardening, duck pin bowling, watching her son play ball, and playing golf with her husband and family.
She is survived by her children, Connie Smith of Shady Side, MD, Randy (Sonja) Whittington of Davidsonville, MD, and Linda (Duane) Cecil of Powhatan, VA; a sister, Jane Skipper of Kilmarnock, VA; nine grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Conley Whittington; two siblings, Albert Leitch, and Betty J. Moreland; and a son-in-law, Johnny Smith.
Friends are invited to celebrate Barbara's life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Friday, April 14 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A memorial service will be held at Davidsonville United Methodist Church, 819 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD on Saturday, April 15 at noon. Interment Davidsonville United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Davidsonville United Methodist Church Cemetery Perpetual Care Trust Fund, c/o Tim Hopkins, P.O. Box 370, Davidsonville, MD 21035.
