If you will be driving I-97 between now and the end of the year, check your internet map service for backups before leaving. There will be a big impact on traffic to/from Baltimore and northern AA Co.
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will soon begin pavement repairs along two roadway segments of Interstate 97 in Anne Arundel County.
MDOT SHA will reconstruct two deteriorating concrete sections of Interstate 97. Project limits include southbound I-97 between MD 3 Business (Crain Highway, Exit 12) and Benfield Boulevard (Exit 10), and northbound I-97 between MD 3 Business and MD 174 (Quarterfield Road, Exit 13). Work includes saw-cutting and removing existing concrete, pouring and setting new concrete sections, and adding new pavement markings.
Portable variable message signs are in place alerting drivers of work dates and any other travel-related impacts. Crews will begin work during the week of August 30, weather permitting; all work is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year. Daytime single-lane closures are permitted Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and overnight double or triple-lane closures and detours may be in effect Sunday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. Drivers are advised to remain alert for changing traffic patterns and lane shifts, and to reduce speeds when driving through the work zone. Customers who have questions may contact the MDOT SHA District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5603.
