Nicole Jo-Ann Adams, 24, is one of two people charged in the theft of a special needs school bus early Tuesday morning in Crownsville. Adams, and Travis Edward Champagne, 24, of Crownsville, were charged with first-degree burglary, theft over $100,000, destruction of property over $100,000 and attempted arson.
Police said the pair were under the influence of alcohol and were looking for change to purchase cigarettes when they stole a special needs bus from a lot in the 1200 block of Generals Highway and drove it through a gate causing extensive damage to the bus before later attempting to set it on fire.
A citizen told police they had spotted the pair walking on Governor Bridge Road earlier that morning. They then got into a dark sedan and left the area. Police found the pair at a home in the 700 block of Governor Bridge Road at around 11:15 a.m. They were taken into custody without incident.
