Nantucket Elementary School in Crofton is entering its sixth year, but 2013-14 will be the first time the Starfish will be led by a principal other than Diana Strohecker, who has moved on to become the director of continuous school improvement for Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
Nantucket's incoming principal, Sarah Pickens of Davidsonville was an assistant principal during the school's first two years before moving on to become the principal at Jones Elementary in Severna Park.
Jones and Nantucket were two of the five county schools recently named schools of the year by the Maryland Center for Charactoer Education at Stevenson University.
