Michael Evans of Davidsonville tried out for the United States men’s lacrosse national team in 2009 and was cut early in the process. Evans had just completed a stellar career at Johns Hopkins and was named a first-team All-American and Schmeisser Award winner as the best defenseman in Division I. However, He was considered to be too inexperienced at that time and the coaching staff selected all professionals for the defensive staff of the 2010 national team.
Evans has since been a 4 time Major League Lacrosse Al-Star with the Chesapeake Bayhawks which has given him the experience lacking 4 years ago. He is now regarded as one of the top man-to-man defenders in the sport.
Tryouts for the 2014 national team will be held Labor Day weekend at Goucher College in Towson with the World Championships being played in Denver, CO, in 2014
