Andrew Vickers Passes Away

Andrew “Andy” Alan Vickers, 81, a 51-year resident of Davidsonville, MD passed away on August 19, 2024 after a brief illness. He was born on April 8, 1943, in Charleston, WV to the late Andrew and Eunice Vickers. Andy graduated from WV Institute of Technology before moving to Washington DC to start his career. He was retired after working many years as a Chief Estimator for a large heavy highway general contractor.

Andy was a member of the Air Force Reserves. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved his role as a long-time youth football coach, in which he received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his commitment to youth sports from the Annapolis Touchdown Club. He enjoyed riding his Harley and was a member of the Annapolis Harley (Hog) Chapter. In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Vickers and his brother David Vickers. He is survived by his children, Glenn Vickers (Debra) of Asheville, NC and Cheryl Jones (Duane) of Annapolis, MD; his grandchildren, Austin and Allison Vickers, and Andrew and Brooke Jones (Alex); and two great-grandchildren, Luca Ginzo and Leilah Elizabeth Jones. Services for Andy will be private.

Sharon Carlton Passes Away

     Sharon Lyn Carlton of Davidsonville, Maryland, born in New York, New York passed away  August 10, 2024 att the age of 79..
     She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Hanlon and Doris Janson. She is survived by: her husband Kevin H. Carlton; her children, Christopher Carlton (Colleen Connelly) of Potomac, MD and Colleen Zamorano (Felipe) of Boca Raton, FL; her siblings, Beverly Puhalla of Pawnee City, NE and Keith Hanlon of Northampton, PA; and her granddaughter Izabell Zamorano.
     A celebration of life was held on Friday, August 16th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory (2973 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037). A funeral service was held on Friday, August 16th 2024 at 4:00 PM at the same location.

Mary Dolan Passes Away

      Mary Elizabeth Dolan (Davidsonville, Maryland),  passed away on August 10, 2024, at the age of 93. 
       A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 16th 2024 at 10:30 AM at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (515 Loch Haven Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, August 16th 2024 at 11:30 AM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 19th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Lakemont Memorial Gardens (900 W Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD 21035).

New Animal Control Administrator

Annapolis, MD (July 26, 2024) - County Executive Steuart Pittman announced the hiring of Claudia Roll as the County’s Animal Care & Control Administrator. Roll will start in the position on Monday, July 29.

“Claudia Roll has the experience and the skills to support the essential work of the staff and volunteers at Animal Care and Control, and to lead a county process to transform our agency into a restructured, mission-driven quasi-government nonprofit that puts the welfare of animals at the top of its agenda,” said County Executive Pittman.

Roll most recently served as Chief of Staff for the Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington, D.C., where she supervised a staff of more than 80 employees. In her work at the Alliance, she oversaw a variety of shelter functions, including animal care, behavior, animal control, humane law enforcement, and volunteers. She led the operations team through the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, maintaining essential services while increasing foster placement by over 70% and implementing a virtual adoption process.
