Cam Spencer Nursing Injuries Ahead Of Big Game
NEW YORK – There are few feelings more frustrating for a coach than heading into a game against a top-level opponent with a team that's less than 100 percent healthy. All the smart game-planning in the world can't make up for a team that is sub-par physically.
That's the situation in which UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley finds himself as his No. 5 Huskies (7-1) challenge No. 9 North Carolina (7-1) in the Jimmy V Classic Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden (9 p.m., ESPN). Not one, not two, not three, but four of his five starters head into the game uncertain of their health status.
The most healthy of the four might actually be freshman Stephon Castle (Covington, Ga.), who played in UConn's first two games, but has missed the last six after having a minor medical procedure performed on his left knee.
"As long as he comes out of today and into tomorrow feeling good after finally getting a couple of practices under his belt, he'll be available, but with a minutes restriction," Hurley said. "It's a tough one to come back for, but I know he'd like to be out there."
As for the remainder of UConn's walking wounded, graduate guard Cam Spencer (Davidsonville, Md.) is nursing injuries to the big toe on each foot, one which he had heading into UConn's last game at Kansas, the other hurt during that game

Roy Eades Passes Away
Roy Eades, age 77, of Davidsonville, MD passed away on November 9, 2023. Roy was born in Washington DC on August 14, 1946.
He grew up in Riverdale, MD playing neighborhood baseball with his friends and riding his bike to the sound of baseball cards flickering in the spokes of the wheels. He regularly took the streetcar into Griffith Stadium to watch his beloved Washington Senators. Roy earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland.
He enjoyed a long and dedicated career of 42 years working for Safeway. Working his way up from a night stocker to store manager, he also trained checkout clerks, taught sanitation, and lastly spent more than a decade as the Director of Risk Management for Safeway's Eastern Division. He was a beloved colleague who could bring levity and humor to any situation and was known for treating everyone with respect.
In 1974 he married Diane Havas and they were happily married for 49 years. They built a life together in Maryland where they raised two boys and reveled in the joy of their two granddaughters.
Roy will be remembered most for his love of family, baseball, and his capacity for always being there to help friends and neighbors. He was curious, meticulous, and efficient in everything he did. He took great pride in caring for his home, his cars, his yard, and when something needed to be done, it was certain Roy was going to do it the right way.
His greatest pride was found in being a devoted husband, dad, and Papa. Raised by a single mother, he inspired many in how he provided guidance, love, and compassion in raising his boys. He loved coaching many of their teams when they were young. Later on, as a fan in the stands at their games, many an umpire still remembers his enthusiastic vocal support.
Roy was a gifted storyteller with a booming laugh, loquacious by nature, and the best dry-witted dad-joke teller. These skills served him well in his second career working his dream job as an usher and tour guide for the Washington Nationals from 2010 until his passing.
Roy was preceded in death by his mother, Camille in 1991. He is survived by his wife Diane; mother-in-law Irene; children Ryan (Melissa) and Kevin (Brina); and granddaughters, Payten and Brooklyn.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Roy's life on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037, and on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at The United Parish of Bowie, 2515 Mitchellville Rd, Bowie, MD 20716, from 10 to 11 a.m. until a funeral service begins at 11:15 a.m. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD 21035.

She attended St. Mary's School in Annapolis through high school, then went on to St. Mary's College of Maryland, studying education. Linda met her husband, Lee, while they were teaching English together at Southern High School. They were married in 1974, and through this union she gained a daughter, Kelly. They welcomed their son, James, several years later. Linda was a devoted mother and never missed any of her children's activities. She spent much of her free time attending softball, lacrosse, and soccer games, horse shows, piano recitals, and band concerts. Lee and Linda were married for 49 years. When they first married, they relocated to Tucson, Arizona, for a year while Lee completed graduate school, after which they returned to settle in Davidsonville, Maryland. Linda was a well-loved English teacher at Bates Junior High in Annapolis for many years. She was very involved in school activities and was the staff sponsor of the student government for most of her tenure. Later in her career she transitioned to teaching at Annapolis High School for an additional several years. When out in public, she was often approached by current and past students that loved having her as a teacher. She had an amazing memory and would usually remember the student's name and details about their life, even for students she had taught decades prior. After retiring from teaching in 2004, Linda enjoyed spending time with friends and family, whether just getting a cup of coffee or lunch together, traveling with Lee to Williamsburg, Virginia, or having family over for dinner. She loved to shop, and her daughter, Kelly, fondly remembers annual birthday shopping trips. Her son, James, warmly recalls her passion for food and the many family meals they enjoyed together at local restaurants over the years.
Linda is preceded in death by her father, James Hunt, and her mother, Maude Hunt. She is survived by her husband, Calvin Lee Watkins, her daughter, Kelly (Watkins) Kanaras, her son, James Watkins (Kelly Zuknick Watkins), her sister Marsha McNabb, and four grandchildren: Alexander, Benjamin, Madeleine, and Mackenzie.
