Brandi Fontaine New Soccer Head Coach At UNC Charlotte
UNC Charlotte 49ers Director of Athletics Mike Hill has announced the hiring of two-time Big South Coach of the Year Brandi Fontaine as the 49ers’ women’s soccer coach.
Fontaine, a former Davidsonville resident, led High Point University to unprecedented heights in four seasons as head coach, She becomes the fifth head coach for the 49ers’ women’s soccer program.
Fontaine led the Panthers to a pair of unbeaten Big South regular-season championships, a Big South Conference Tournament title, the 2021 NCAA Tournament and the highest rankings in program history.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2023 Teacher of the
Year for Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the county’s Independent
Schools.
Nominees and winners will be recognized at the 37th annual
Excellence in Education awards, hosted by the Education Foundation of Anne
Arundel County Public Schools, on Thursday, April 20, 2023. Last spring, Mr.
Charles Whittaker, an HVAC Instructor at Center of Applied Technology North,
was named the 2022 Anne Arundel County Public Schools Teacher of the Year.
AACPS has had two Maryland State Teacher of the Year winners in the past five
years – Josh Carroll of South River High School (2018) and Teresa Beilstein of
South Shore Elementary (2020).

Barbara Richey Passes Away
Barbara Ann John Richey, 82, a 50-year resident of Davidsonville and previously of Silver Spring, MD passed away peacefully on August 13, 2022.
Barbara was born on November 3, 1939 in Kingwood, West Virginia to the late John B. and Philomena John. She was always proud of her West Virginia roots. Barbara earned a bachelor's degree from West Virginia University in Elementary Education and completed her Master's Degree from Bowie State University. Barbara retired from the Prince Georges County School system after 33 years of service. Teaching was Barbara's calling and she went on to be one of the Nations Outstanding Educators in 1976. After a successful career teaching and upon her husband Georges's death she successfully ran George's business East Coast Building Supply with their youngest daughter Kim. East Coast just completed their 42nd Anniversary. Barbara was proud of her Lebanese American heritage and her Maronite faith. One of the first parishioners at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church in Washington, D.C. She enjoyed spending time at her second home in Atlantic City and formed many wonderful friendships. The greatest joy of Barbara's life was spending time with her family, especially her two granddaughters. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 34 years, George Richey and her wonderful son-in-law George Pavlidies She is survived by her beloved daughters, Marie Philomena Richey (Scott Siclari) of Hamilton, Virginia, Ann Margaret Richey Pavlidies of Davidsonville, MD and her husband, the late George Pavlidies and Kimberly Jean Richey of Edgewater, MD, and her cherished granddaughters Grace Ann Pavlidies and Georgette John Richey. Barbara took great pride in her close relationship with her siblings and they were lovingly referred to as the 7B's; the late William (Bill) John, Robert (Bob) John, Brenda Goletz, Barry John (Loree), Bernice Deem ( Bryan) and Bradly John. She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Barbara's life on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, from 4 pm until 7 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037. A Mass of the Ressurection will be offered on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 11:30 am at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church, 7142 Alaska Ave NW #7142, Washington, DC 20012. Thomas Schall Passes Away
Thomas "Tom"
Joseph Schall, 84, a 35 year resident of Riva, MD, passed away on August 9,
2022 at his home.
Born on September 12, 1937 in Omaha, NE to the late James and
Elise Schall, he attended Cathedral High School and Creighton University, later
drafted into the Army. Tom went on to have a career as a Microbiologist for the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration and after retirement, he began a second
career as a personal trainer. Tom was a parishioner at Holy Family Catholic
Church in Davidsonville, MD, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He
was a superb athlete, playing a wide variety of sports such as football,
basketball, softball, and golf. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan and also
an avid skier.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two brothers,
Jack and Bobby Schall, four sisters, Geri Bihler, Shirley Mitchell, Margie
Bishop, Marian Lankas and his son Tommy Schall. He is survived by his loving
wife of 60 years, Joyce K. Schall; sons Ted Schall of Richmond, VA, and Tim
Schall of Severna Park, MD; brother Jim Schall of Omaha, NE; sister Honey
Brannigan of Omaha, NE; and grandchildren Danielle, Sienna, and Thomas Schall.
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 11 am at Holy
Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035.
Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind (www.guidingeyes.org.) or Holy Family Catholic
Church. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.KalasFuneralHomes.com.
Arrested After Car Crash
DAVIDSONVILLE, MD — A man is facing charges following a vehicle crash and brief foot chase late Wednesday night in Davidsonville.
Around 11 p.m. officers said they responded to a car crash along
Central Avenue and Patuxent River Road in Davidsonville.
When officers arrived, they said they found the driver of one of
the involved vehicles. As officers were making contact with the driver, he took
off on foot.
After a brief foot chase, police said the driver, Travis Moore,
40, of Harwood, was taken into custody.

Francis Mazza Passes Away

He was predeceased by: his father Vincent Mazza; and also
Vincent Mazza Sr.. He is survived by: his mother Rosemarie Mazza of Richmond
Va; his children, Nick, Jon and Lia of Davidsonville Maryland; his wife Dana;
and his siblings, Vincent (Jan) of Odenton Md and Maryanne of Richmond Va. He
is also survived by many brother-in laws, sister in-laws, nieces and nephews.
