Michael James Thayer, 56, a twenty two year resident of Davidsonville, died on January 2 at his residence.
Born on June 3, 1957 to the late Everette and Katherine Thayer, Mike graduated from Potomac High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He began his firefighting career at Ft. Myer Fire Department in Virginia in 1982, working his way up to Fire Chief, until he retired in 2011.
He was a member of Moose Lodge 1856 in Upper Marlboro, the West Penn Hunting Club and American Legion Post 248. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles and reading.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Powell and her husband D.J. of Davidsonville; a brother, Rev. David Thayer of Annapolis; a sister, Nancy Lee of Springfield, VA; and a granddaughter, Ashlynn Zimmerman of Davidsonville.
Friends are invited to Mike's Life Celebration from 10 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 10, at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 4 Wallace Manor Rd., Edgewater. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Children's Hospital Foundation, 111 Michigan Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20010.
