From South River Source:
Anne Arundel County Police spokesman Lt. T.J. Smith said that three men were arrested in Davidsonville on Wednesday night for $1,000 robbery after the three attempted to steal power tools from the Annapolis Home Depot store on Forest Drive. Smith said that the thefts happened just before 5 p.m.
The suspects in police custody are:
- Tyrone Edward Freeman, 29, of Lanham
- Ruston Anthony Hopson, 24, of Bowie, and
- Antwon Maurice Barron, 24, of Landover.
Police said that the three men loaded up a shopping cart at the Home Depot. The cart included power tools valued at more than $1,000.
As the three tried to walk out of the home improvement store, employees tried to stop them. That is when the suspects allegedly displayed a Taser, which Lt. Smith said they sparked in order to prevent Home Depot staff from preventing the shoplifting. This action put Home Depot staff in fear of bodily harm. Smith said that they backed off from pursuing the shoplifters.
The three men fled in a White Crown Victoria. Police got a broadcast when the vehicle was spotted on Route 50 near Route 424/Davidsonville Road.
In this area, police made a traffic stop. The vehicle occupants fit the description of the suspects involved in the Home Depot theft scheme.
Anne Arundel County Police brought a witness from the Home Depot to positively ID the suspects, Smith said. The other suspects in the vehicle were also detained. At this time, police recovered the Taser, according to the police department report.
Freeman, Hopson and Barron, the three suspects, were taken to Southern District. The Southern District detective unit assisted in the investigation. Anne Arundel County Police charged Freeman and Hopson with first degree assault, second degree assault, robbery and theft over $1,000. Barron was not charged with anything related to the shoplifting incident, but was arrested on three outstanding warrants.
As part of the arrest, police closed down roads in Davidsonville in the early part of the evening on Wednesday. The roads were reopened around 8 p.m.
Citizens with information regarding this incident should contact the Southern District Detective Unit at 410-222-1965.
