Michael McClellan Passes Away
Michael George "Big P" McClellan, 69, a 43-year resident of Riva, died July 1 at his home following a three-year illness. B
Born on November 2, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Howard McClellan and Helen Elnitsky, Mike graduated from West Catholic High School in Philadelphia. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and was awarded the Air Force Good Conduct medal. Following his military service, Mike completed a 50-year career as both a Federal employee and contractor working for the U.S. National Security Agency. Mike was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Annapolis, Knights of Columbus Council 1384, Phoenix Society and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
A sports fan, Mike coached the Davidsonville Gators youth football team and enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janice Kay McClellan; son, Michael P. (Stephanie) McClellan of Odenton; two daughters, Cheryl (Keith) Tydings of Gambrills, and Cathleen (Brian) Liberatore of Davidsonville; two sisters, Helen Shwaluk of Sicklerville, NJ and Mary Jane Schank of Pilesgrove, NJ; four grandsons, Hunter Tydings, Tyler and Trevor Liberatore, and Breckin McClellan; and granddaughter, Delaney Tydings. Friends are invited to Mike's Life Celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 8, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 601 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, MD 21228. An online guestbook is available at www.kalasfuneralhomes.com.
